Modded sounds not fading over distance

Recommended Posts

Not sure which forum to put this in...

Whenever I use VopSound 2.1 or ACE_SM sound mods, enemy gunfire does not fade with distance. It sounds like an enemy soldier is firing from 5 metres away when really he is 100m away, very confusing! Vehicles are fine though, they get quieter when further away, just gunfire does not...

In vanilla ArmA2 (i.e. no sound mod) all sounds fade correctly. I really don't understand why this is the case.

Is there a config setting or something I need to play with?

Currently running ArmA2 patch 1.05 (but problem has been the same for a long time.)

Thanks.

My system:

Windows 7 x64

SB Audigy 2 (latest driver)

Intel E6750 C2D

Radeon 4890 (latest driver)

I have the same problem with both my sound cards, Audigy 2 and onboard RealTek HD Audio. I have tried old, new and in between drivers for both cards but with no luck!

Turning hardware acceleration off doesn't help all it does is giving me a delay on sounds!

Also remember that with ArmA vanilla sounds there's no problems!

Seem to be something modders forget when making the soundmods? Some value that is overlooked?

Weird, but thankfully i dont have this problem. ACE sounds can be heared further (like higher dB - even though i know tpM said he didnt raise it), but it still fades over distance.

In ArmA1 i had this problem with 1 addon (UKF Jackals - GL version). Wherever on the map it fired i heared the damn GL like it was right in front of me lol.

Hope it gets sorted soon. I know how annoying this problem is.

Thanks for the replies - JW Custom I see from your ticket that they were unable to reproduce the problem over at ACE2, which makes me think it's possibly hardware related... it would be good if others with this problem could tell us what sound card they have, maybe we can narrow it down to a few types.

For what it's worth I also tried a different driver, updated directx, turned off EAX, CMSS, headphone detection... really dont know what else to do.

I'm not sure how to fix your current issue, but I'd advise keeping CMSS off. Arma 2 doesn't support it and as such it completely messes up the sounds in game.

I have tried with both Audigy 2(same as you) and with onboard RealTek HD Audio with same result, also like you the sound is working fine with vanilla sound which makes it even more weird

confirmed, sounds are fading properly in CSM2 beta....

However no disrespect intended to anyone but I don't like this mod, to my ears the rifle + MG effects are just Youtube sounds, not nearly as powerful and crisp as ACE_SM (having said that the bullet impact sounds are great :) )....

Surely the answer lies somewhere in the config file (i.e. there isnt one for ACE_SM)?

@Mandrake5

Try the beta of Chammy's sound mod, the fadout works :yay:

Tested, Chammy's works here too. X-Fi XtremeGamer with EAX on, CMSS-3D enabled, auto settings.
