Can you create / place "awareness groups" without the need for scripts??

All units placed in a group via editor or script will share information.

A group won't share information with another group. They need to work it out for themselves. That's default A2 behaviour.

From what I'm reading, this awareness script alerts all units across the map regardless of grouping or distance - to the presence of enemy forces.

I haven't noticed any lag with UPSMON, and neither did anyone else. If you have a lot of moving AI there will be lag regardless of what scripts you use. Scripts, as for themselves, cannot really lower FPS as the engine doesn't allow them to.

Try missions with 10-15 players. There is a cross checking, each enemy group and each player which really adds some overhead. On the other hand, DAC for example reduces groups to leaders while they are far from war zone, thus reducing lag. So scripts can really add or reduce lag depending on how they are used, number of players etc.

Its hard to do advanced things without some scripting.

I think the AI is good enough, its impossible to make one reacting at everything like a human...("Who the fuck killed Frank, he must be somewhere around"). But with a litttle help or even cheating you can do some nice things.

I'm not saying that my Awarness script is a panacea but its a starting point if you want to design large missions and want to get into low level details and make AI react how you want. It mostly fix one of the major AI problem, sharing information among groups.

UPSMON does do things like that. And overall, moving AI with UPSMON cause just as much lag as moving AI without UPSMON. I make missions with it for Zeus which regularly have 20-40 players and an appropriate amount of enemies.

Indeed, last versions makes AI aware when dead bodies found. Also, some performance improvement. I was mostly talking about the old UPS script. Here is the new one

Ok. When I DL the lastet UPS script.... What do I do next? How can I view the practice mission that comes with it? Do I create a folder for it to go into like a mod??

my documents\arma 2\missions or my documents\arma 2\mpmissions, same as where you save all your editor missions...
