vexter0944 10 Posted December 26, 2009 Just bought Arma II after seeing the 1.05 patch come out. I have Windows 7 64 bit loaded - current X-fi drivers (June 09 release) and I'm getting static, sound drops, pop and so on with Arma II. This is the only game I see this in. I've read the forums and searched, but haven't come up with a solution yet. Is there one? I'd appreciate any input everyone might have on this one.
Ackart 10 Posted December 26, 2009 I just had this issue, actually. A few things you can do. First off, make SURE Windows 7 is properly set up for your speakers. This means going into the audio control panel, clicking configure and selecting your speaker setup. Another thing, are you using either the Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect systems, usually for a home theater system? If so, try switching between these two. I made a thread about this ages ago, you can find it easily by searching "X-FI" or "DTS".

No dolby digital or anything like that. I'm disabled cmss and eax as well.
vexter0944 10 Posted December 27, 2009 well - I found the fix on my own - I removed the card and went to onboard sound. ALC 888 built on to my MSI P6N Platinum. It also fixed the issues I just found about when I bought Resident Evil 5.
Electricleash 133 Posted December 27, 2009 Hmm... not using your sound card doesn't sound much of fix to me. Incidentally I have the same issues: Just bought a Creative X-FI 5.1 usb external sound card. Music and vids play without issue, as does Dragon age (the only other game on my system) Windows 7 32bit Realtek's onboard sound with most recent drivers, which as far as I have heard work fine. My new laptop has no 5.1 support though, thus the need for the xfi (+ it's far superior in sound quality) Going to investigate further and post my results. Electricleash 133 Posted December 28, 2009 Well I think I've managed to fix the problem I was having... at this point anyway... but not entirely sure what it was that ultimately fixed it. Seems as though my on-board sound was interfering with the X-FI in some way so I: Turned off all other onboard sound applications such as onboard speakers, mics (could have been some sort of feedback from the open laptop mic... and disabled anything to do with Realtek. Switched USB port the X-FI was using, it may be that i have to unlug and replug the usb cable each time the computer is booted. Hope this helps somebody in the long run. eihort 0 Posted January 8, 2010 On my 5.1 system setting it to a 2.1 seemed to fix the issue. Whether or not I had the unused on-board sound activated in BIOS (Asus p5nsli) had no effect. Lame I have to disable my surround sound. >:(
Trapper 0 Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) I can only tell you that I'm on Win7 64bit with an X-fi ExtremeGamer with 2.0 speakers or headphones. CMSS-3D is activated all the time. Driver installation file is SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0013.exe, probably the one from June 2009. The only issue I have sometimes is the static sound drop. And only when I'm directly below and very close to a helicopter. It's possible that the sound recovers after a short while. Mark, the HiFi sound mod creator, once told me this could be an issue of too complex or loud sound samples, and that ArmA2 features many sound samples for everything not just one engine sound for example. So if every thing else fails you could try if one of the sound mods helps. For now I'm running Sound of War mod. EDIT: Turned off all other onboard sound applications such as onboard speakers, mics (could have been some sort of feedback from the open laptop mic... and disabled anything to do with Realtek. I would check the bios first for disabling the onboard sound. This reads like you've only done it in windows. Edited January 8, 2010 by Trapper
delevero 10 Posted January 18, 2010 The fastest way to fix this problem is to open your creative labs audio control panel and choose the tab named "speakers" change 5.1 to 2/2.1 then you have no problems with arma or the screaming sounds.... I have had this bug for ages.. well one of many bugs arma1 and 2 have. Run the game in stereo instead when using creative labs xfi soundblaster. By the way the problem with the sound especialy happens when you have a headset connect at the same time and running arma in 5.1 sorround.... and especially when playing multiplayer ( since that is when you use your headset ) if you unplug your headset and play single player your properbly can without sound problems.. welcome to the world of arma
