Huge slowdown when viewing water

Recommended Posts

Has anybody else encountered this? I've got dual Mobility 4850s in a nice Alienware laptop. Prior to the new patch, I didn't have any problems viewing water, it popped up in a couple of the beta patches, and now with 1.05 it's pretty bad.

Anybody else seen this, figured out a workaround to restore performance?

Even before the new patch I always had a massive fps loss when crossing the coast.

I believe it's the animated texture of the beach foam and not so much the

water. Once you get away from the coast the fps picks up alittle.

Chernarus runs atleast 10 to 15 fps quicker than Utes until I cross the coast.

do you have AF ON in your CCC 3D settings?

Same thing happens to me, I think it's related to the 3D resolution. On my old monitor I was forced to play at 1280x1024 and the water was smooth. On my newer monitor at 1680x1050 the water gives me low FPS. I've also noticed it's worse if you have anisotropic filtering turned up high.

There is a similar problem with certain trees (mainly the red trees and the light-green leafy trees), their performance is ok unless I turn on AA in which case my FPS will drop down to the 20's when I'm near them.

Also VD. You need alot of CPU.I am not sure your Laptop will ever have the cpu power to push the game relative to your graphx, you have a 1900/1200 Screen? If yes you are under powered at the start. Get a SSD, and some big fan for the bottom of your LT so you can OC the CPU to 3.6 or more.

I'll try the AF settings and see if that helps, but the problem is new with the patch, so it couldn't be my CPU, which is quite decent for a laptop.

The AF settings make a huge difference, about 15-20 fps gained when I drop the AF. But, the terrain looks horrible outside the detailed grassy area when you drop the AF to nothing, so I think I'll just avoid the coast and hope it's fixed in a patch.

Also, further testing revealed it's not so much the water itself as much as the shoreline that's causing the FPS hit.
