Yes, it does depend on the criteria you use, and after all, the litmus test for a fighting force is a war, and many countries havent done that for a while. Remember this though: the efficiency of a fighting force is inversely proportional to the complexity of their dress uniforms.

It seems like the best thing any of you have to do most of the time whenever Canada comes up is to bash our forces.

While it's true that we spend less money on our military than the US (And I deplore the government of my nation for it's stupidity) our forces are very well trained and efficient.

In fact, if you look at the first US Special Forces back in WWII, the cream of the crop was provided by the Canadians in the form of men from the PPCLI.  (No, I didnt get that from The Devils Brigade, I got it from a guy who served in the PPCLI and was well versed in their history)

While I agree that the condition of our armed forces is more than a little on the deplorable side, on average our troops are as well trained and equiped as anyone.  In most cases, likely better.  After all, JTF2 snipers are wandering around Afghanistan because they are among the best in the world.

I'm an american.. I don't hate the Canadian forces.. although the South Park movie was pretty damned good... I have no tension between any of the american allies, I will not dis the SAS for their brilliance in modern tactics... the GSG-9, having them big solid ba- hands in which makes them one of the strongest foces in the world... the GIGN, some very excellent stratigists there.. although we never hear much about them. As for the Seals, Force Recon Marines, and the Airborne... they all have their special tasks.

Now someone answer me something... does D.E.L.T.A. really exist?? I'm a yank, and I have not the slightest if they do or not... supposibly, they are the United States Anti-Terrorism Team... or maybe more..

Ok, worst army? I posted this in another thread, but it seems to be relevant here too.

This is a picture from an excersise that we had with the Italians (among others). They wanted to have a RPG Launcher for their group picture and we borrowed them one of our GRGs (Carl Gustav). Notice that the guy holding it is holding it backwards. Go figure.

But to be serious.. the Italians were very good in all the elements of the excersise. The marines were not, but I still think they are quite capable soldiers.
