CTD Problem fix! (GTX275 and Win7 64 bit)

Recommended Posts

Just managed to overcome crashing to desktop I experienced ever since I installed the game, maybe this will help some of you guys.

Before I got the fix it, I tried disabling PhysX but it didn't help. When I looked for some more GFX settings on the Nvidia control panel I stumbled upon this (note the bottom part):

nvidiat.jpg

It's rather dissapointing to find out that GTX275 compatability to ArmA2 is only "Fair", and nothing is mentioned there about preventing CTD's, but I tried to do as reccomended there and disabled the "Advanced Shadow Detail" and lowered the "Post Process effect" to Low (In-game advanced video settings). The result was no crashes at all!

Well, the game doesn't look as good as it was before but at least I didn't have a single crash since :bounce3:

This is my complete spec list:

Intel® Core™ i7 Processor i7-950 + Motherboard DX58SO

3x2GB Corsair XMS3 Triple Channel

WD 1TB IntelliPower, 32MB, SATA II WD10EADS

Asus GTX 275 896MB GDDR3 DX10 HDTV 2xDVI PCI-E

One more tip:

During my crashing period I also had wierd graphical artifacts sometimes. That caused me to suspected the GFX card rather high temperatures (it used to get up to 75+ degrees Celcius). I managed to fix that using Rivatuner tweaking software and following this excellent

. It didn't solve the CTD's but it lowered the card's max temperature to only 65 degrees! Highly reccomended. Edited by Variable

a 275 is a mid range card (relative to 285,295,4890,5850,5870,5970). Whats the rest of your system? CPU MB ect...

Maybe, IN YOUR OPINION...

facts indicate something different...

if a 275 is a mid range card then so isn't a 285. in some benchmarks the 275s come out better than the 4890...

-Ziggy-;1511796']if a 275 is a mid range card then so isn't a 285. they are practically identical and in some benchmarks the 275s come out the better.

Not in this game. A 275 is a maxed out 260' date=' you can check the specs, and its a nice card. You have two of then in a 295. Semantics i call it mid, but others would call it mid/high... whatever, But A2 wants more card for max settings at HD res...maybe thats why he gets "Fair". But what is the metric that prog is using, i know for my res and IQ settings a 275 would be to slow by its self.

But as to the CTD, it maybe a a system issue other than his card/drivers, more info needed.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the steroscopic 3d compatability purely something to do with the 3d glasses and nvidia 3d vision thing?

I don't think this is refelctive of performance when using arma normally.

Do you use the 3d glasses? If so then disregard what I said.

At any rate, I'd be checking a few different drivers out to test compatability with your rig and arma.

I get random ctd's too, but I think its an SLI issue

To be honest I had no Idea. Just tried it and it worked.

kklownboy- It seems like you were right! Played about 3 hours with all graphics maxed out and didn't experience even one crash, I also think that Arma2 runs much more smoothly now. Thanks a lot.

Do you think disabling hyper threading can cause any issues or lack of performance in other games or outside Arma2?

I run a GTX275 on my quad and while i can only run a 1024x768 screen res due to this monitor, i can run a 200% screen render res with no apparent ill effects (maybe 1-2fps drop), especially on the latest beta patches.

Disabling physx did nothing for me when i was testing stuff out to be honest!

Glad you sorted your machine out :D

Yup, that "Fair" rating is a rating for Stereoscopic 3d with Arma 2, not the normal GTX275 rating.. Unless you're actually using 3D glasses with a CRT monitor on Stereoscopic setup then I'd suggest disabling anything related to stereoscopic 3D.
