Axel88 10 Posted December 7, 2009 Hello Everyone. I really like making new missions for myself and friends to play. One of the main reasons I love Armed Assault especially considering that the Game content is so low to begin with. I know how hard you all worked to make the campaign but I frankly did not buy this title for the campaign...I bought it for the massive open environment that I can edit to make my own fun with my friends. Anyway THE POINT OF THE THREAD... Why is it so damned hard to find information to do with mission editing? Where is the simple library of commands and syntax hosted by the Games developers? ALL I can find is a miazma of totally not helpful threads and posts meandering around all kinds of topics but none of them helpful... I think that the reason is that you guys all know what you are doing... you have been doing it a long time and half of you probably all know each other. Well anyway thats my gripe... I hate forums I always get flamed so not really concerned if someone out there doesnt like what I said and feels they MUST say something nasty at me... the TRUTH is that the info is almost impossible to find in a consice organised SINGLE LOCATION... I paid a fair bit of money for my Arma 2 Ticket... I want access to what I consider mine. All the game purchasers paid all the bills and if they arent kept happy then they will bleed away or the game quality will take a dive to suit the sheep people who are prepared to accept less than what they wanted.... I want my editing guide library I am not prepared to trawl forums for the info...becuase I generally cannot stand forums or the people that use them. So yeah good luck to you all. Thanks for an excellent game that has but this one complaint from me.... cant think of anything else that irritates me its all good... hmm except that the C-130 cannot taxi... at all and has no reverse thrust. Hey an idea! Just strikes me right now this very minute... Sell the guide.. I'd be happy to boost your coffers for the information I seek.
metsapeikkoo 10 Posted December 7, 2009 It's not like you can't use google or anything like that you know.

VictorFarbau 0 Posted December 7, 2009 Considered consulting Mr Murray's Editing guide (free lunch)? The link was posted here some time ago: http://hx3.de/tutorials-157/armed-assault-editing-guide-deluxe-edition-mr-murray-15209/ Then there's a BIS portal for all sorts of editing in Arma 2: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_2:_Editing Last but not least - the command reference. Ok, it leaves too much room for guessing and interpreting in my mind. But after registering you can also leave comments to help other users use the functions: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:ArmA_2:_New_Scripting_Commands_List Have a look and say again there's no useful information whatsoever out there :) Cheers, VictorFarbau
Herbal Influence 10 Posted December 7, 2009 Welcome to this community of posters that you say, won't like! ;-) Welcome to your new experience not just being a lazy "consumer" but a part of the active gamemaking and the community. I know what you mean at last. It's really hard and you are right that there is - though I know Murrays Guide - a big lack of structured-easy-to-read info. It's all done by amateurs not profis and you often feel like getting stones instead of help. But I want YOU to write that easy-guide for this immensely complex game. For you are the one who knows all that the amateurs just forgot: How hard it is to make the first own missions, models etc. ... ;-))
Deadfast 43 Posted December 7, 2009 http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:ArmA_2:_New_Scripting_Commands_List This one is better. Includes all ARMA 2 commands, not just the new :) http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Scripting_Commands_ArmA2
W0lle 1052 Posted December 7, 2009 (edited) Besides that I wonder how you were able to miss the two sticky threads called "ArmA2 Comref" (posted by BI CEO) and "Mission editing and scripting information". MrMurrays excellent editing guide has already been mentioned. So you can't say there is no information around. But I guess you expect a 2000+ pages manual included in a $40 game, no? ;) Edited December 8, 2009 by W0lle
jw custom 56 Posted December 7, 2009 Also notice that the search button is your friend and if that fails post your questions and there's a great chance you'll get them answered ;)
Axel88 10 Posted December 8, 2009 (edited) hint "days and days of searching with out much success... 1 forum bitch and the next day results!!"; testflare = "F_40mm_White" createVehicle [getPos trig11 select 0, getPos trig11 select 1,240]; hint "Like A Magic Star Falling From The Heavens... And only 1 useless "Google it" response... I am actually kinda impressed"; :o Thanks guys... Seriously... I couldnt find the info in a reasonable amount of time per result... it was taking TOO LONG... These couple of links were far better than I found in Armaholics FAQ and nebie type threads... And actually when you are relying on a search engine as I was it is a hell of a lot harder... Given the massive boost these links have given me... (my mission is finished already...I Kinda like it actually....its a mad rampage against the clock due to a rebel attack having to be unleashed early because some stupid guy lit a fire and gave away the hide out. :D)Id say that those Threads need an overhaul... Hours of work instead of days and weeks. I am really looking forward to what else I can create after I get into the more challenging stuff. Thanks again.
