Daykeras 10 Posted December 5, 2009 In Arma 2 I can only set video memory to Normal, which is frankly small for my vga card. Specs: Windows 7 64 I7 920 2.67ghz 6GB DDR3 Nvidia GTX 275 with 1792mb of dedicated onboard ram That last bit is the key here. Textures keep loading in and out, and I'd like it if more could be kept in ram. I cannot set Texture Detail or Video Memory above Normal. Any and all help appreciated. .kju 3245 Posted December 5, 2009 Do you use the latest beta patch? Which GPU driver version?
Daykeras 10 Posted December 5, 2009 I am running driver 195.62. Does the beta driver perform better? Edit: There is no Beta driver currently.

Daykeras 10 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) I am running version 1.04.59026 of Arma 2 Edit: Installed and ran Beta patch 1.04.60899 and it still did not allow me to set Texture or Video Memory to anything other than Low or Normal. dogz 10 Posted December 5, 2009 as you cant set it to default edit your config file to something equal to or less than 1792MB then change its properties to read only to test eg 1024 x 1024 x 1792 = 1879048192 my 1g card runs very smooth and stable at 1010MB which is less than 1gig but what A2 allocates when I use default setting
Daykeras 10 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) I'll try 1500, it was apparently set to 256 :( The game still says "Normal" Textures are still popping in and out. Edited December 5, 2009 by Daykeras
dogz 10 Posted December 5, 2009 yep have seen guys reporting as low as 6megs...lol
Daykeras 10 Posted December 5, 2009 Doesn't help, that apparently isn't overriding the setting in game, or it's not being used.
jw custom 56 Posted December 5, 2009 Doesn't help, that apparently isn't overriding the setting in game, or it's not being used. Try make the file read only after manually editing it!

Daykeras 10 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) I edited it, manually, and made it read only. No effect as far as I can tell. I will try again. Edit: No effect. It might as well have not done anything. Edited December 5, 2009 by Daykeras
dogz 10 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) I assume you have maxmem=2047 and mod=beta set in startup parameters and you have installed the latest DirectX update: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\beta\arma2.exe" -maxmem=2047 -nosplash -world=empty -mod=beta Start in should be set to "C:\Program files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2" check post by Sloop he had exact same prob pm him see if he sorted it... http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=76908&page=2 check your nonLocalvram is set to something more than 512 megs below is my config for a 1g 9800gt set yours similar and see what happens. language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=100000; Resolution_Bpp=32; Resolution_W=1680; Resolution_H=1050; refresh=60; Render_W=1680; Render_H=1050; FSAA=3; postFX=0; GPU_MaxFramesAhead=3; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=2; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=1059983104; nonlocalVRAM=527433727; Windowed=0; winX=16; winY=32; winW=1680; winH=1050; winDefW=1680; winDefH=1050; edit... mistake in previous post should have been: check that you have single display performance mode enabled in Nvidia cp Edited December 5, 2009 by dogz
Daykeras 10 Posted December 6, 2009 I just did a fresh install of windows 7, everything else mentioned has stayed the same. The video in nvidia cpanel is set to single display performance mode. No change in game, still only says Low and Normal. When I add all the different switches, it _still_ only gives those two options. Does the game ever redetect hardware when I do these changes, or do I need to do some registry trick to make it redetect?
dogz 10 Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) I think you would only need to restart game to refresh all settings. you may also need these in your startup parameters as you have W7 and an I7 -winxp -cpuCount=4 also some with your cpu had to turn off Hyperthreading in bios. This is a link to BI info on startup cmd line http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters also check your profile in \ArmA 2 Other Profiles\"yourname" see what this texture mem is set to...heres mine for default texture setting: "yourname".Arma2Profile TexMemory=4 Edited December 6, 2009 by dogz
Daykeras 10 Posted December 6, 2009 my texmemory is
dogz 10 Posted December 6, 2009 yeah well thats no good change it to 4 also you may want to read this thread http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=88632
Daykeras 10 Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) None of those settings are doing anything for me, and changing vram or texram does not result in any ACTUAL game changes. The short of it is my game doesn't appear to detect or support the GTX 275 1792mb ram version. This is causing it to see it as something else and it's forcing limited ram on me. That's my guess. Daykeras 10 Posted December 10, 2009 Still have no solution for this problem. Can anyone tell me why Arma 2 refuses to offer Video Memory options above Normal? If I knew what prevented Arma 2 from offering those, maybe I could work around the issue.
bushlurker 46 Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) I think I read somewhere that viewdistance settings can determine what video memory settings are available... try setting viewdistance to something like 2000m - ok and exit game - restart and see if you have all the options available... vaguely remember reading that somewhere As far as the figures for memory in the arma2.cfg are concerned - they're just the autodetect routine reporting... changing those numbers has no effect whatsoever... Theres been loads of discussions about all these issues over the months - heres a post about the various videomemory settings and what we guess they mean and what they do - we think...
