How to access models and texture files?!?!

Recommended Posts

This might strike some of you as a noob question, but I'm a texture artist who would like to make some custom ARMA 2 soldiers. I've downloaded the mod tools, but I cant seem to locate the files that contain the models and textures for the marines. I've tried searching the forums, but couldn't find anything.

I'm totally new to Arma, so please don't assume I know something and skip a step. Thanks in advance!

1) Locate your arma 2 addons files

C/Programfiles/bohemiainteractive/arma2/addons

2) Find the pbo file called characters and depbo it using this tool

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=416

(there are many others but i just search this one quick for you)

3) look around the depbo'd file for the textures you want to change, right click and open them with tex viewer

from here you can save them as paa or jpg

4) Edit :)

And about the models, is there any known way to get them into 3DS Max? I need access to the lowpoly to be able to sculpt my highpoly.

As far as the models go, you cannot open the models used in the game with any particular program including 3DS Max. You have to use the sample models provided by BIS, and I think they have to be opened with Oxygen 2. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=83808 There is the link to the models you will need.

I could be wrong about this, but if I remember right thats how it works....
