I've said this before, but the C-130 has a very low stall speed to accomidate paratroopers, which also allows it to land on short airstrips. The C-130 also has massive landing gear which allows it to land on unimproved airstips and even flat areas that have no airstrip. So, hypothetically, even if the runways in OFP aren't long enough, there is alot of extra flat area in front of and behind the runway. Should be plenty of space. Also, the Rocket Assisted Take Off device is only used when extremely large cargos are involved which alters trim/stall speed charateristics. I thinks Gimbal's planes are a great compromise for OFP, it allows the fun of a dogfight at a managable speed considering the map size and visibility factors. Some Moron 0 Posted April 2, 2002 I use the planes in my co-op missions all the time. They work very well for support. If you need to get there in a hurry the planes will make it. Tex -USMC- 0 Posted April 3, 2002 Hey, no prob. youve got some valid points, its just what with the view distance and everything, a Spectre gunship wouldnt add alot to OFP... maybe a few cut scenes, but thats about it, because otherwise you wouldnt see it in action, just the results of its firepower. qUiLL 0 Posted April 4, 2002 planes are good its just the problem is they do the job too fast. i mean really if your suposed to give air support to some ground units and there are some tanks you need to tail all you do is tab-fire-tab-fire-tab-fire unit all the tanks are dead. even with many of them they are usually all dead on the second pass and you always kill the shilka before it can even fire on you. targetting needs to be made harder,shilka radar longer, a10 radar longer, and shilka fire range longer IMO Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I still say the flight is a very nice touch in OFP, except the fact that you can't perform rollovers and loops (with a mouse, no joystick for me). Besides, the A-10 looks soooooo damn good in OFP, I personally don't care for the handling - it's a rough engine, so deal with it: like it, or don't like it. dayglow 2 Posted April 4, 2002 I wouldn't mind fast planes or a AC-130 gunship (although the whole 1 weapon on a platform would ruin this baby). Not really to fly myself, but to add to a mission. To be able to call in a CAS flight, or have the Specter as support on an assualt, it would be sweet. Also to look up and see the contrails of planes twisting overhead, not part of the action, but just eye candy. It would really help with the immersion. Look how much better the game is with Satchels soundpack, now think of all the extras visually that could make a difference. I can see it now, My squad is pinned down by fire from a tree line. Can't see anyone, but can't move because of the fire. Call in the coordinates and a AC-130 just starts hosing down the whole area. Watch as the tree line is engulfed in fire (kinda like when a helicopter opens up with its cannon, the large puffs of smoke, but just the volume of fire would tear the whole forest apart) then scout out the resualts with the scorched ground and the bodies of the enemy caught in the fire. Or better yet, imagine a F-16 screaming overhead and dropping napalm (somebody created a flamethrower effect, imagine a napalm canister for the A10 or SU25) Now that would be sweet. MHSJROTTCADET 0 Posted April 5, 2002 I love planes, and I mostly fly plane sims, and I was estatic to see my fave plane (warthog) represented in OFP, but compared to the real life version.. it's crap! I mean the A-10 in real life can carry 8 Tons of bombs! and because of the view distance in OFP your plane goes by too fast for really accurate bombing.
