warleader6 10 Posted October 30, 2009 Hello All, I am sure this has been brought up before, so forgive me. I did numerous searches but Have not found the specifics. So I decided to ask here. Anyway, I am just seeking experienced players to point me in the right direction and give advice on how to get decent at this game. First off, I want to say this is a great game. I bought OFP2: DR, and like it, but am pissed about the 64 entity rule on maps and the editor is completely scripting focused. (so much for making missions in 10 minutes like this game ) anyway, my problem is i S U C K at being a soldier here :( How do you veteran guys determine where the attack is originating from and all that good stuff. When I come under attack, I have to usually look at my AI counter parts to see where they are firing at. I either end up with never seeing the enemy in time before my team kills them or I end up on my back screaming for a medic. This game rocks for realism, I just really want to like it, and I need input on how you guys handle squad or team movements before and during combat, and what role you play. I.E. toward the back issuing orders, or up close and personal. I am figuring out the command interface. good grief,...press spacebar, hit the number 1 key, scroll down select move...or hit the 2 key key and scroll down to find target.....look at the screen....its red, im dead hahahahaha. I am getting batter at that though. Please send in tatics, tips, reading material websites, what ever. I appreciate any advice and hints from the PROs.....again great game this is. anybody notice the AI can shoot a quarter at a 1000 meters with a 9mm hand gun? hahaahah
11aTony 0 Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) You should find some pointers here for instance: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74994 If you are still getting used to command interface you should do training missions. If you have done that, try some very easy and small missions. You may find some on armaholic.com or make your own. Its easy. In the beginning stay back and issue orders to your squad members. Also, you may want to try the game on easiest difficulty. It marks enemies with red, civis with white and friendly troops with green or so. Further more, you can sett terrain detail to very low and disable grass to see more. Turning Post-Processing effect off helps with aquiring the targets. Otherwise, always move from cover to cover, never directly to objective trouhg open area. Even hiding near some small bush is better then nothing. You can use friendly vehicles as cover as well, just watch for upcoming RPGs. Try using higher ground to attack the enemy if you know where they are, they are not aware of you and if that is possible at all. Oh yeah, if you have a large squad under your command (9 men or so) try deviding them into 2 or 3 teams and move them separatelly. Not all at once. So you send 1 team 50-100m and then send next team. So everyone are covering everything. There were some excellent tactics manuals for arma 1, real hardcore but I cant find them at the moment. django333 10 Posted October 30, 2009 I'd suggest joining a good, active unit. One that trains regularly. A realism unit works well because they are focused on working together and using real world tactics. Two things that generally translate well to ArmA2. Playing with good players is an excellent way to learn this game.
andersson 285 Posted October 31, 2009 Remember the difference between cover and consealment. A bush hides you (consealment) until you start shooting, then you can expect the enemy to start shooting at the bush. A stone or a brickwall protects you, that is cover.. Also use the terrain, its good to have some way to retreat if you need to.
grub 10 Posted November 1, 2009 Yeah dude just slow it down, it may take 10 mins to set up an ambush on a camp of 5 units, but it would in real life too. If you are "Team Leader" get into position so you can overlook the objective, use command view. Assign targets to team mates bearing in mind their particular weapons. You cannot just run into a group of enemies Rambo style, its all planning and patience lots of patience, remember not an FPS. Use the editor to set up some basic 4 vs 4 scenarios and go from there. Enjoy. :D
