Give me your windows surface

Recommended Posts

Well, here is mine, (I had to change the background, cause otherwise you wouldnt have seen the icons)

Of course there is nothing special about such a screenshot, however I find it very interesting what applications you got constantly running and which you turn off (to spare resources). Half of the staff you see there is free or share-ware, but good stuff you realy need. (see at icons at the right bottom)

Some I realy need

1. Adaptec Create CD (for my CD-burner programm)

2. Powerstrip (tunes graphic-chip and screen performance)

3. Kaperski Anti Virus (realy good and fast updates)

4. MBM5 Motherboard watcher. Tells me heat of CPU and chips) alarms me if necessary

5. 0190ALARM; protects me from dialers

6. ISDN watch. Is good for controlling your telephone-bill and internet performance

At the left!

1. Hah, do you see I got Game-spy next to 'All Seeing Eye'. I use both.

2. BINGOOO, is a search-engine, but realy sucks big time

3. Paint studio Lite: great free program to edit images and create screenshots

I am waiting to see yours. Hope I can learn about new good applications!  tounge.gif

Ok, ok, you twisted my arm.

taskbar.jpg

From the left:

Network Connection (getting 100 Mbit soon, yey! )

DC++ (downloading something)

Pc Anywhere (I am actually not at my computer, but running remote)

ZoneAlarm

ICQ

Creative DiscDetector (probably should remove this crap)

Hotsync (Palm synchronization utility)

Audio HQ (SB Live5.1 Platinum stuff)

Volume

PGP

ID2Crypt

MSNBC News Update

DEAMON Tools

Winamp

Asus digital VCR

.. and finally the *allmighty* popup-stopper

I am very happy for Windows XP's hide feature when it comes to the notification area - it only shows the active icons. So generally speaking I usually see about 4-5 icons.

Man, I miss my computer. I am visiting my old folks for the Easter holidays. If you check the connected time in the network box, you'll see for how long I havn't played OFP sad.gif

And I miss my network connection, here I only have 1 Mbit ADSL sad.gif

I've had no problem with my deamon tools and OFP at all. As long as you have the original CD in the drive, it doesn't complain.

I run PC Mag's free utility, Tray Manager, to keep my displayed tray to a minimum. There are lots of things in the tray but the only ones I display are the Tray Manager's own icon, power (this is a notebook - good to know when the plug is out), ZoneAlarm, MemTurbo, Getright and the time.

I dont understand how you guys operate with things running in your taskbar. I want to keep as little running as possible so it doesn't slow me down. Maybe I'm a bit overprotective of my resources because I only have 192mb SDR ram though.

So here's my desktop right now: http://home.cox.rr.com/residuum/desktop.png

I've got winamp running of course, Trillian for chatting, and Zonealarm so I know I don't got spyware running. And when I usually close Trillian and Zonealarm and I never run winamp while playing a game.

I have 512 MB ddr and all the stuff takes about 50% of that. I don't have any problems with resources except perhaps when I run some really heavy Matlab calculations. Basically I can afford (for now at least) to not care about what I have running in the background. As for CPU-usage, none of my background stuff takes up any relevant percentage. The same goes for memory. The things that I have in the taskbar take up something like 30 Mb, with ICQ being the bad guy with 12 Mb.

Here is my desktop by the way:

Really? Thanks mate, I'll try to find it. The tranistor skin was the closest that I got to.
