frostybits 0 Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) OK first off I have been here off & on over the years to get help & support since OFP, the community here is the best bar none so a big hi & thanks. I would also like to point out from a person that was there in the early days of OFP Arma2 is its true successor. This is another master work by BIS quite breathtaking at times but a challenging, flawed, ambitious masterpiece like the first installment. They have always listened to the community & the patches will be regularly delivered, if I remember rightly I think they did not properly get on top of things until patch 1.08 in OFP. Right my system specs are core 2 quad 9550 2.83 gig stock no o/c nvidia gigabyte 275 gtx factory o/c to 660 core clock 4 gig ddr2 800 ram samsung 7200 rpm hard drive (game install) raptor 10000 rpm (page file) vista 64 bit This machine is my old machine with new vid card and cpu upgrade so I was able to quickly turn settings up and compare. After tweeking to improve performance it was not until I moved the page file to the raptor that things really improved for me.... advice I found here (thanks!). Before that things ran ok until I got in an urban environment then it struggled ....texture trashing ,thrashing whatever really bad. The page file move did it! Just moved it to a 10gig partion & let it be system managed (I would like to point out that after restarting to shift the page file to another equal or faster drive shut down, like fully shut down & then re-start to see how the new page file location helps you.) I removed tweeks like command lines for quad core etc and set nvidia settings back to default and it now runs like butter. These are my settings As I stated above nvidia settings default so vsyn =on. in game IR 1680x1050 3DR 1680x1050 Visibility 3269 TD High VM default AF high AA 5 TD High OD High SD High PE Disable This is my configuring story. I hope this helps someone out there so as to give back to those that have helped me on these forums. Edited October 19, 2009 by frostybits
shataan 1 Posted October 19, 2009 I did the pagefile to a different drive aways back. It helps with all games, cause it is hard for the drive to read and write to itself. Better performance when you have the pagefile on a different drive/partition than the O/S.
croc4 0 Posted October 19, 2009 I turned off my page file, I have enough system memory, the page file is used as virtual memory when real system mem is low (If I recall correctly), so if you have enough main mem there is no real need for a page file for 90% of all tasks, maybe video editing or something like that it might be useful to have. yanquis 10 Posted October 20, 2009 how do u turn off page file?
frostybits 0 Posted October 20, 2009 Just to add to my post I did strike caching problems once since the smooth play. Solved it instantly by setting video card memory to high playing a few seconds then going back to default setting, smoothness back to normal. Hope this helps
liquidpinky 11 Posted October 20, 2009 how do u turn off page file? If you are using that RamDisk you better leave it on or suffer a rapid crash in game. To get to the pagefile settings go into Control Panel/system/Advanced system settings/Advanced/performance settings/advanced, you will then see a change button. That is you in. You can select individual drives and have disable paging by clicking on the no paging file when a particular drive is selected. You should see your RamDrive in there too if you want to put some pagefile on it as well, seeing as it is much faster. ;)
