Static noise in mp

Hi, don't know if this is old, but I just had my first MP game since 1.30 tonight, using the latest 1.46 patch.

When I got into the game, I noticed a little hiss and static when I was moving around on the ground. Then I went into a helo, and it stopped. Then I parchuted out and the sound came back when I hit the ground.. Later a tank cannon went off, and my phones screamed a loud screeching sound that made me have to wrench my phones off, it was so loud. Nothing I did could stop it, and some other guy in the game was having the same problem.

This is all on a clean install on my Win XP partition, that has no addons that could mess with the config, and I planned on using it only for MP. My Win98 partition has the SP OFP with DR sound addon and pretty much every addon available.

I have SB Live 5.1 and have never had this happen in any game.

Anyone have this happen and know what it is???

A friend of mine with Windows XP Professional and an Audigy occasionally has the same problem.

I have XP Pro and a SB Live!, and I haven't experienced the problem. For what it is worth, I'm using the WDM drivers version 3509.2.0.0.

I have both had and read about this before - a workaround is to change views from 1st to third person.

Not helpful if you third person is turned off though.

My sound card is an SB 5.1 with EAX. I get this all the time and live with it - crackle crackle.:angry:

Do you get it all the time as in, in single player too?? Has it been this way for you since some patch or from the beginning?

I don't have this problem in Win98, so maybe it's an XP thing.

and also win2k thing because it happens to me driving uaz,jeep,5th truck and can only be stopped switching 1st and 3rd person view.

I too have this problem with SB-Audigy and Win2000. Switching views is the only fix I know.

I haven't encountered this static...but one thing that annoys the f**k outta me is people making stupid noises with mics using voice over net.

If you are not going to use the mic for true voice over net communication (with your teammates)...switch it off. Acting like a stupid 8 year old brain damaged kid singing and burping and making fart noises is funny for about 3 seconds. Problem is admin often doesnt know who it is so he can't boot.
