WMike20052 0 Posted October 12, 2009 Some textures around the game world, usually on buildings, flash black. Like on and off on and off. Kinda like a strobe light lol. Its not really noticable unless ur looking for it but im always looking for it lmao. Is this just a bug in game or is there something wrong on my end? Every other game works perfectly graphics wise, its just this on arma 2 thats bugging me cause it looks stupid. Kills the immersion which i love about this game. Any tips? KeyCat 131 Posted October 12, 2009 It's not your machine and your'e not alone! For me it's really noticable when looking on distant objects thru scope/binocs. This is an engine thing and has been there since ArmA I days. Lets hope BIS can find ways to improve things since I agree it's an immersion killer. Some say that differnt drivers helped a bit but I haven't really noticed any difference between drivers on my nVidia card. /KC
no use for a name 0 Posted October 12, 2009 It's z-fighting...basically overlapping textures can't figure out which one is supposed to be "on top", so they flicker back and forth. I have noticed it in other games; just not near as bad as in Arma2
WMike20052 0 Posted October 12, 2009 Hey guys i fixed it! Atleast i havent seen these things since ive done this. Test it and let me know if it works for u. During gameplay press shift and numpad - (minus) after that type flush The game should go to a black screen then return to gameplay. The flickering should be gone now! Shift+Numpad Minus Then type in flush
KeyCat 131 Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) Then we probably don't mean the same thing WMike20052 since "flush" doesn't fix it here, maybe you was having another issue and I'm glad you found a fix for it!? As NUFAN says it's a well known issue in "3D world making", you can read more about it here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-fighting I'm not a SW developer but it's IMO quite bad in ArmA/ArmA II and I've always wondered why? Is it that the precision of the Z-buffer decreases as the distance to the objects increase to save resources (or is the precision just to low to start with)? Is it a limitation of nVidia/ATI HW or is it 100% software? As I said I have no clue how to make a 3D world so I'm just stabbing in the dark but are eager to learn a bit more about it... /KC Edited October 13, 2009 by KeyCat
