THEBLITZ6794 10 Posted September 21, 2009 currently, the only unnatural cover (cough* only cover) are sandbags, ramparts, and bunkers. all of which provide no cover against tanks and artillery (well, bunkers provide some against arty but not much). now, why not simply make the terrain shape, then raise it 10 feet with some placeholder and make the actual terrain over it if its impossible currently. but we really need foxholes! wolf[173rd] 10 Posted September 22, 2009 Foxholes, yes, trenches, no. Trenches take a lot of time to make and by the time you make them, you'd be on the move again. Foxholes take an hour or two depending on the size but, it can be useful fighting a lot of A.I.
Sgt.Spoetnik 10 Posted September 22, 2009 hi, yes foxholes and trenches are mayby needed in a fix engagment but in modern warfare you always on the move (land, air, sea)and you need to find your cover on the go,so no time to dig any hole. its a other storie in Mods that are based on certain time like WW2,Vietnam,...,there they are really needed and usually already in the mod in some way or form, thats just for realisme, for actually start digging the trenche or foxhole in arma2 is not possible, thats a limit off the engine/game, but there are ways to work around it like, make a trench model/addon and integrate it in a custom map so you get the effect that the trech is really below the ground lvl. Seen that in the Omaha beach map in Arma1, and ive seen some WIP long ago for arma1 that really changed the terrain in game but dont know how. just use the terrain, landscape and objects, tree's,buildings for cover, works just as well. cya
Flash Thunder 10 Posted September 22, 2009 If they're just placeable procedural objects Im not going to want to dig one in realtime that would be lame.
randir14 10 Posted September 23, 2009 You can try using the object called Earthen Artillery Nest (I think that's the name). Maybe someone can make a script to make them deployable in multiplayer like MG nests and medic tents.
Z.agge 10 Posted September 27, 2009 Trenches can be made from Eatrhen Ramparts. They look very cool actually, when you put them close enough to each other.
mr_centipede 31 Posted September 27, 2009 trench and foxhole will only be usefull if we can rest our weapon on them (for stability) and the AI wont go prone, unless he's totally suppressed/morale break, so that the defender would actually have a bonus for sitting in the foxhole, defending
McArcher 0 Posted September 27, 2009 trenches are really needed and useful in modern wars, hope some day i will see them in game... don't forget about self-trenching mechanizms for T-72's and later tanks...
walker 0 Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) Hi all There are already two Fox holes available in the editor in vanila ArmA II. A small V shaped scrape fox hole with direct defilade to both sides and a front direct fire defilade scrape with several firing points. Any trench or scrape can be additionaly disguised by bushes and other ground clutter. Please be aware like most other games ArmA II does not have deformable terrain so placing a trench below ground would be a complex modification. They are listed in the editor as Empty - Objects fortifications Trench and Small Trench. Kind Regards walker Edited September 27, 2009 by walker
