Sudden slowing - memory leak?

Recommended Posts

I've had OFP for a while, haven't changed my system, except keeping roughly up to date with Detonator drivers, and now all of a sudden I'll be playing (SP) and a bad lag will set in, i.e. you move the mouse, and two seconds later the screen responds.  This makes it hard to shoot people  tounge.gif

So I looked at TweakME, and with nothing other than OFP running my entire 256MB of RAM was gone, optimized it in tweakME, and then played again, and when I checked tweakME again, it was eating into the reserves again.

Now the only things that I've changed is having more add-ons downloaded, so the questions I ponder are

a) could add-ons cause a memory leak?

b) does OFP itself have a leak (version 1.46)

c) is there a recommended maximum number of add-ons?

Oh, nearly forgot, system is 256MB, 1.2 GHz Athlon, WinME, Geforce 2MX 64MB, but like I say this hasn't changed, and the problem has only recently appeared...

Any ideas?

Tweaking your computer will only do so much. I had the same problem unitl I cleaned my computer out. Do you have a virus scanner? Was the last time you did a Defrag? Do you use anyother programs to make windows run faster? Have you used the "Disk Cleanup" Program latley?

Try unistalling your current drivers and get the newest Nvidia drivers. Also get the latest bios upgrade for your mobo along with the mini-port driver for you Athlon which gives a lot of performance boost.

Try exiting any programs when u play the game like antivirus programs, msn, icq etc.

The last time i put in detonator drivers i got the same problem and when i reverted back to the last set of drivers, fromthe gfx card makers website,it worked ok again so i think changing them would be a start.

Addons won't necessarily cause a memory leak, but playing a mission that requires one to be loaded will obviously eat up more RAM. Try playing some of the longer stock SP missions, such as "Sniper Team", and see if the problem exists there, too.
