Tank sim

I'm thinking of getting myself a modern day Tank sim and was wondering which is the best any ideas?

The last one i've played is M1 Tank Platoon II. A bit old now, but a great one.

Steel beasts is the best tank(modern) sim out there…I don’t think anyone that have played it will disagree with me on that. It's a VERY accurate simulation of the US Abrams M1A1 and the German Leopard 2A4.

The only negative I have to say about it is that the graphic is pretty outdated.. no hardware acceleration.

The sound in the game on the other hand is really good. Once you get past the outdated look you will find that it's a really great sim!

There will be a Steel Beast 2, that I believe will be released later this year, that will use a more modern engine with hardware acc.

I read a review on M1TP2 from the Adrenaline Vault they claimed that it was good sim/strat but that it had some bugs that needed patched.

Steel Beasts does look dated but apparently has a very solid gameplay.

Anything good been released in this century?

No.. I don’t believe there are any. Don’t let the bad graphics of Steel Beast scare you…

Trust me it's a great sim…just read some of the reviews…it got great reviews* and many “best simulator of the year†(2000 I think) despite the bad graphics.

If you want a very realistic modern tank sim there is no alternative right now…get Steel Beast or wait for Steel Beasts 2

Panzer Elite was my best game in 2-4yrs ago : I dont remember....( Anyway the concept of the game was great at that time..

True, and they released the patch that fixed most bugs. M1TP2 is a great game, and it's cheap now.

M1TP2 is still a great game. Steel Beasts is a better ( more detailed ) sim but you'll only get it mail order last time I checked.

And, yes, Panzer Elite SE is great for WWII tanks though it also has a somewhat dated engine.

I guess its about time we got a few new armour sims.

STEEL BEASTS is where its at, man. it is lacking in graphical quality, but if you are a true tank sim fan, you can look past it and really delve into the most sophisticated tank sim ever.

Yes you can buy Steel Beasts in the stores now...and there is a Gold edition being released soon…with latest patches and new missions I think.

D/L a demo of Steel beasts its very detailed but it lacks other types of units like choppers and fixed wing aircraft.

I found this site which gave them both very good reviews www.tanksim.com.

I'll probably get them both cos there old and cheap.

There's a new one coming out called M4 Armored Clash, made by wizardworks released by Infogrames, but I've been unable to find any screenshots so that's most likely a bad sign

steel beasts.. good sim or not is just flat out UGLY.. the graphics are literally pre 1994 grade.. no joke.. 640x480 with no acceleration AT ALL..

you can have the best physics and accuracy in the world. but the graphics look like a nintendo(first nintendo) game..

ADDED: ok now Steel beasts is TOTAL shit.. the list of joysticks that will not work with it are as long as the sky is blue..(most all USB stuff including X-36/45 and every other HOTAS.  and as anyone who has played it knows.. trying to aim with the mouse.. is like trying to write while holding the pen with 3 foot long chopsticks..

Hmm, is steel beasts a FPS like OPF is? Even when you are in the tank in OPF it is in first person shooter and is realistic.

in modern gaming (before SB's graphics engine was made LOL) graphics will ALWAYS be a big part of what makes a game good.. graphics increase realism and make te game more fun..
