noobiewarrior 10 Posted August 23, 2009 I have been looking for a realistic and fun military sim for years. Arma 2 with all its need for coding improvements is it. There should be a thread for noobies. My own description: long-time player of PC games (remember Zork?), played the new games when they came out (love Fallout 3) but nothing before Arma 2 was realistic military including graphics (maybe Arma was but I did not know about it). I have no military experience, never played Arma 1. Would really like to work my into being able to play Arma 2 effectively. Have found nothing online to help someone just starting with Arma 2. A thread where noobies like me could have basic gameplay questions answered by experienced players would be great. I mean really basic. Here's mine: HOW DO YOU SEE ENEMIES BEFORE THEY KILL YOU?! I figure the Armory is the best place to get training. In any challenge where the bad guys shoot back, I am having a terrible time seeing them before getting shot (graphics settings are across-the-board high, distance setting is 3000, difficulty is regular). Why am I having such a hard time seeing the enemy? I do not just charge in to every position; even using stationary weapon defending a position, I never see the bad guys before they see me. Is this a graphics issue? Am I an idiot (the two possibilities are obviously not mutually exclusive)? Please: HOW DO I SEE THE ENEMY
Nutlink 10 Posted August 23, 2009 Main thing is to just keep an eye out and hold your right mouse button when looking over a distance. Another thing is that eventually you get used to seeing what should and shouldn't belong. For example, even though the enemy might be prone in the distance, you might be able to spot movement where there shouldn't be, or a color that just doesn't look right. Always double check to make sure it's not a friendly. For the most part it's just practice practice practice.
.kju 3245 Posted August 23, 2009 Use RMB zoom all the time. Movement is the key. Dont get yourself exposed. Use objects as cover - vegetation can hide, yet not protect. ;) Use terrain slopes as cover - use the different stances. Train vs humans. :)

noobiewarrior 10 Posted August 23, 2009 Thanks. wiki is very helpful. couple Qs: (1) how much of Arma tips/tricks are still relevant? (2) has anyone or is anyone likely to create scenarios specifically designed for training purposes? Alternatively, is the mission editor simple enough for someone who has never used one to create training scenarios?
Inkompetent 0 Posted August 23, 2009 Training missions seem to be in the making as a quite recent thread in the multiplayer forum discusses :)
