Relemar 10 Posted August 8, 2009 does it do anything? whats the whole idea of it? i must be missing the point? does it do anything when a target is in sight/range? i know its used as a 'crosshair' but is there anything else its used for, or just their for realism, thanks
o22cool 10 Posted August 8, 2009 If your able to lock on a target by pressing tab you will get a square, a circle will appear if the target is within firing range and you have a lock, the circle will grow darker if you have a more solid lock.
Thirdup 0 Posted August 8, 2009 Keep in mind there are two things we see in ArmA (depending on aircraft): 1) the actual HUD (heads up display) 2) the weapons lock indicator The HUD will remain stationary (projected up in front of the pilot view). The lock indicator (more ArmA2 game function than realistic) will stay visible on a target from any angle of view (even behind the pilot). The hud display is quite functional. It will also vary between aircraft and weapons selected. It can display airspeed, altitude, artificial horizon and climb rates, etc. It also displays weapons guidance information. The cross hair will usually accompany the gun. The lowered circle with floating aim point will usually cover rockets. The centered circle with floating aim point will cover locked and guided ordinance. The "weapons lock" indicator (circle w/square) lets you know which target is currently locked and hints at an optimal release point. Again, the HUD will vary between different aircraft, helos, country, etc. But it does actually server a functional role.

Yeah im talking about the heads up display (HUD) likew the green thing, not the lock on. is there any use to the HUD? I dont see how to use it ;/ like in the AV-B
Thirdup 0 Posted August 8, 2009 (edited) The HUD in the AV-8 provides a good deal of useful flight information once you learn to recognize the symbols. This aircraft's HUD actually has more function than many of the others in game. The numbers displayed top right are your current compass heading The solid green horizontal line is the artificial horizon. The horizontal lines above that (with the ends pointed down) indicate you are in a climb. The horizontal lines below (ends pointed up) indicate a dive. The vertical line on the left indicates angle of attack (ie: rate of climb or dive). The HUD aim points (crosshair, high/low circle) are described in the above post. The floating/leading aim point (tiny circle) is of questionable use in-game. It's meant to give you some help as to where to correct your aim/lead your shot, but I've not found it to be of much use (I may be missing something). InFireBaptize 0 Posted August 9, 2009 hi guys, please correct me, i'm trying to find out if i'm missing something. A: as a pilot flying a chopper, you tab through targets and command the gunner to take them out by either using cannon or missiles. The target locks when using missiles but wouldn't when using rockets and you have to do fly by shooting and best when you set manual fire and use them yourself. B: As a gunner, the AI pilot keeps telling you to switch weapons accordingly to bring his chopper to your target sight. Is there a way where i can lock targets so my pilot can fly or adjust the chopper toward the targets! Please help me with above and correct me. Add any tips it may help me with the above. Thank you.
