Need some help/advice with the graphics.

Recommended Posts

Well there are several issues I have.

First, what exactly does the Video Memory option do? I know what it means but I would like to know if there is a smoother perforamnce (not the graphic quality but the fps rate) when you have it on low or on high? (I got 1GB so I should use default but I am interested in fps perforamce)

Then I have this problem. When I drive into the city (or some place with high amount of detials) I get a fps drop and then if I press esc I get the fogged screen (not black screen which happens quite often and takes 3 secs) with "Recieving..." This normally takes forever and evetually crashes the game. It doesn't happen very often but when it does it's annoying. Anyone else experienced this?

The game was crashing a lot when I was trying to save but I fixed that by lowering the graphics.

Anytime I crash I loose the skies. That can be fixed by changing video memory from high to normal and back to high but it's still annoying.

Can anyone please give some comments on this?

Well I have a better system than the one that is recommended by the producers and I still have a huge fps problem in a city fights.

I have ArmA installed on a different HD than OS and I was wondering if that could be the problem?

Ok I might have fixed the problem.

I forgot to mention that I was getting a "no entry arma2.cfg.3d_ performance" error message everytime I lunched the ArmA2.exe.

I opened the "C:\Users\<Name>\Documents\ArmA 2\arma2.cfg" file and there was a "3D_Performance=100000;" line missing (anyway I got this from my brothers comp so I am not sure what does it mean yet).

I get a little more fps in the cities now. :)

I also decreased the "sceneComplexity" in the <profile>.cfg which is located in the same directory.

The difference is huge. Before that I was getting around 17 fps now I am getting around 35 in the city.

try it yourself, run the game with fps and play with the settings while the game is running, i noticed 2-3 fps increase when i put it on very high.

unfortunately, i believe almost everyone has performance probs when doing big city fighting against AI. it seems the game wasnt optimized the best for the high end stuff. I consider mine rather fast and it still picks up lag but its not that bad. try a PVP server and u will definitely see improved frames.

Nah, not everyone, many people run the hug city fighting fine, but many have problems. I had problems when I first starting playing which happened when I looked at a big city, but then I realised I had view distance set to 3000 (on an older graphics card), reducing it to 1600 removed the fps drop.

Use default... very high just uses 512Mb of video memory... if you set to default it will use 1Gb (which is your card's video memory)....

I tested it and the difference is abysmal!

In therms of image quality, as textures are loaded way faster... as in therms of performance, as it will increase fps.
