Shooter McGavin 10 Posted July 24, 2009 did some reading here, must say vsync off and 5 pre-rendered frame rate doubled my FPS for arma2. was running at 20, now max 40. but my problem is the crashing. took me a few hours to complete boot camp bc i couldnt stop it from crashing. im in the campaign mode, it can run for about 15-30 minutes before it crashes. i think i got almost an hour in. amd 5000 m7640n (dual core 2.6) 2 gigs of kingston ram 9800 gtx nvidia win xp should i return the game or can i get some help? thanks people
no use for a name 0 Posted July 24, 2009 what are your temps for you GPU/CPU? sounds like either a temp or power issue
Shooter McGavin 10 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) you know i thought the 9800 had a program for the temp, i had a 8800 before and it did. i cant find the temp. i do have another fan inside, and upgraded my power supply again when i got the 9800. i just downloaded the new patch for my 3d card, the game runs better(keyword better) but it cut my fps in 1/2. ive tried adjusting all 3d card settings, nothing realy helps. i was getting 40 fps before with high graphic setting, 1280x1024, 5 pre-rendered framerates, and vsync off i get about 15-17 fps now, turned down resolution and minimum graphics. i cant get any better than 20 fps. **i could have swore that the temp readings from my 9800 ran in the 60's, my old 8800 ran 75-80 (running cod4). the 9800 comes with a heatsink, so alot of the heat if any blows out the 3d card vent(the extra pci slot it uses) Edited July 27, 2009 by Shooter McGavin
Steakslim 1 Posted July 27, 2009 Have you tried turning your fanspeed to 100%?
wooly-back-jack 10 Posted July 27, 2009 hi shooter I hope this may help you, I PM'd this to someone before and I just thought I'd paste it here for you. PhysX == Off AF == application controlled AA == OFF texture clamp == use hardware error reporting == ON extension limit == OFF force mipmaps == NONE max pre-rendered == 8 multi display/mixed GPU == single anisotropic == ON negative LOD == ALLOW TF Quality == High performance TF Trilinear == ON Threaded optimization == AUTO Triple buffering == ON Vsync == OFF I reset my 8800GT to 600/900/1500 which is default (had tried this before) went into Bios and disabled my overclock (had tried this before with above too) but kept voltage same as overclock. when I went to 'advanced chipset features' in my bios to set my K8 <-> NB back to x5 from x4 I noticed the stuff underneath it was also set at x4 (default in manual even with a pic with them all at x4 with the k8<->NB @ x5) I noticed these could be changed to 5 so I thought, what the heck I've tried everything else and set them to x5 so now I have : K8<->NB HT x5 NB-->SB HT x5 NB<--SB HT x5 played flawlessly last night, infact I was on from just after tea till about 2am with work nextday lol now I ask you, why were those NB/SB values defaulted at x4 when they can goto x5 and will they be ok at x5? :) oh I also use the following shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -nosplash , -cpuCount=2 WHAT THE HELL DID I DO RIGHT?? :D (specs in sig) the 182.50 stopped the BSOD's but not the crashes. I did the above last night, I don't know what did it but I managed to put in a monster session last night. Hope that is my problems over now! download Nvidia system tools and speedfan use the system tools to ramp up your GFX card fan to 100% but do not overclock anything, at least not until you hear of people with similar systems to yours overclocking on Arma2 and it running ok after next patch (if you do overclock for other games you can save different profiles in nvidia system tools/NVcontrol panel.. so you could have a non overclock profile and call it ARMA2 etc) another thing many AMD users forget when they reformat (myself included) is to install the AMD dual core optimiser Hope this Helps, my specs are in my sig.. inferior to yours but still not too different

no use for a name 0 Posted July 28, 2009 awesome post wooly. havent gotten a crash since. i turned up fan#2 to 100%, and the temp hasnt risen over 50. thanks guys no problem! Arma2 really stresses systems more than other games I think due to poor optimization, and I think that's why a lot of people are having issues. I can run the game fine; but my system is stressed to the max and hits temps that I never see in other games. Hopefully this will be fixed with patches
