mutters 10 Posted July 21, 2009 I just read that arma2 has a inbuilt voice chat built in to the game,it also says that it gives better bandwidth balancing and 3d sound positioning. How do you configure this and is it any good,IE better than ts vent etc. thanks

ajsarge 10 Posted July 21, 2009 It's useful if you don't have access to a server's vent/TS (or they don't have one). The default key is set to Caps Lock. There's some nifty features though. Like setting it to direct chat will make your character speak through their mouth. You can have conversations with people, or yell at someone to get their attention! Noraf 0 Posted July 21, 2009 not to mention to wisper so the enemies doesn't hear you... ;) the built in von system is extremely usefull, when it works, and is set up the right way, you got plenty of channels to use ( direct speek (to everyone nearby) , group chat (everyone in your group ( set by mission maker usualy ), viechle channel (like internal coms in the chopper, when the pilot isn't in your group ), side channel ( everyone on the same side ), global channel ( everyone ) command, and comander channels i'm not sure of though, haven't gotten around to test those out yet.. but be aware, using von, even if you use side or group channels, enemies near might still hear you ( since you are speaking into a radio )
no use for a name 0 Posted July 21, 2009 at SimHQ, they actually disabled in-game comms because it made the game very unstable. Ever since then we haven't had a server crash/hiccup at all. It's definitely something they need to work on
Alex72 0 Posted July 21, 2009 Yes it has some problems atm, but its very nice comms to get you immersed even more than TS/Vent. That is because you have the DIRECT channel where people will hear you only if they are within range. So you use that when you are with your squad and change channel for radio useage when needed. :) It needs to be fixed though as there is some problem atm, and maybe it also needs more of a volume boost. Im not sure how it is atm, but the in game VOIP is very nice. Wait for patch 1.03 where i hope the problem it has atm is fixed. Alex
