SnakeGRNET 10 Posted July 21, 2009 When I'm playing single player, everything is running just fine and dandy with almost all the settings assigned to very high, but whenever I try to play a game of multiplayer the game gets choppy and is unplayable unless i turn pretty much everything to medium-low. Is this normal? Phenom II x4 955 Ati Radeon 4890 4gb DDR3 @ 1333 Thanks in advance for the feedback!
wooly-back-jack 10 Posted July 21, 2009 yes it's normal, multiplayer is unstable and is where the most CTD's happen
SnakeGRNET 10 Posted July 21, 2009 Oh ok I see... Hopefully BIS will have this patched up soon... Thanks Jack!
MPBR 10 Posted July 21, 2009 It also depends on the Server, I have jumped into a 30-40 player server and had normal fps (around 30-40 min @ 1920 with high/veryhigh) and others with less than 10 and it was choppy as all hell. I think some of the servers are over optimistic with what they can handle playerwise. But so far, I have had 0 issues with MP (Apart from some servers chunking as mentioned above) , normally domination for public servers, and cutome co-op missions with 20-30 in a clan. SnakeGRNET 10 Posted July 21, 2009 Well the server's framerates wouldn't affect mine, would they? Its not that I'm lagging, but my FPS are down really low.
Razorman 10 Posted July 21, 2009 Server sets the graphics in this game, as the client you have 0 control over them, this prevents cheaters lowering details to get the advantage in multiplayer. If you are chugging online look for Utes maps with low player #'s. That is all.
SnakeGRNET 10 Posted July 21, 2009 Oh ok... But it still doesn't make sense to me as I play Single player at very high pretty much... Thanks guys!
-=seany=- 5 Posted July 21, 2009 On thing that crossed my mind. We all know how lots of AI kill the FPS and limit it to about 25-30 online. However, shouldn't it be the server that is controlling all the AI with it's cpu? For example in other games, lets take BF2; If you play single player on your own PC and set up a server with 64 bots you will get much worse performance than if you joined an online game where the server was controlling the bots. So online in Arma, our CPU should not really be in use as much as single player. Is it the dedicated server running the game that cant handle all the AI properly that is dragging players FPS down regardless of what uber cpu we (the clients) might have? Jackdaniels 10 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) What I don't understand is that I cannot get above 29 Fps on maps that have Ai. No matter what resolution or setting I change the frame rate never gets past 29Fps. Can someone tell me if the frame rate is somehow set never to go above this 29 Fps? I would also like to know if Bis are looking at ways that will give us a better frame rate. It wouldn't be so bad if it remained at the 29 Fps mark, but mine drops down to as low as13 fps. It'd be nice to know what your specs are and what tweaks you already used... though iI'm not sure I can help, somethimes its just a unchecked checkbox that does make a difference... Well you could hold the key to sorting out alot of people's problem's, if you are getting the frame rates you say you are getting. Like I mentioned in my previous post it does'nt matter what settings I choose, high/low, my frame rate never gets past 29fps. The specs of my computer are listed below, but it might help if you list what setting you are using to get these incredible fast frame rates. Also, are you sure you are talking about maps like Evolution that have ai on them and not just hold maps? One other thing I think I should mention, I run the game at 1920 x 1200 resolution, because I have tried lower resolutions and it doesn't make any difference to the frame rate I get. Windows Vista 32 bit, but also tried windows 7 with same result. Asus crosshair motherboard. Amd64 x 2 dual core 6400+ 3.21 Ghz. Geforce 260 Gtx. monitor 26" IIyama. 4gig Ram. Audigy gamer soundcard. HardDrive, Western Digital 600GB. Edited July 21, 2009 by Jackdaniels
