Hey, I'll rely on your results, then :) Thanks for the testing and the support. *thumbs up* Keep up the good work :) Cheers

Hey maturin, hey Jarhead. I did this test with the same result. Mk17 ammo along with its SD weapons do have a sonic crack, even after several meters (tested at 50, 100 and 150m). The Bizon PP-19 SD did have no sonic crack right at the end of the muzzle. Tested via armory. So I think (dunno if thats true, have no tech knowledge of arma) there is no such thing as transsonic ammo. Either its SD and has no crack at all or it is supersonic and has a crack. But, tbh, this is not my main issue. The Mk17 SD series definitely has a crack and I'm not sure if this is right. Mayhap BIS messed this one up, didnt test it in vanilla yet. Hope this helps. Would be great to have completely "silent" weapons ;) Cheers and thanks again

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

Thanks maturin and Jarhead for the responses. To answer to your suggestions: I also hear those cracks when I'm on my own, in 3rd person view, camera tilted sideways to the max (as if you'd like to view your player character from the front) so that the shot "flies by" or passes your camera. After checking with which weapons this issue appears I can say that it is only the Mk17-series, so affected are the CCO SC, Sniper SD and TWS SD (which all use the same type of ammo, btw.) with its 7.62 NATO caliber. Please note that there are Mk17 mags as well as Mk17 SD mags, so in theory I think the idea was to have subsonic ammo. Standard ammo loadout for any of the listed weapons are SD ammo mags. I do not use any other sound-changing modifications except JSRS, so no ACE or sth. tpm, with my limited knowledge I'd say that in game terms and in this specific case muzzle velocity doesnst matter. I do have those cracks, so telling me that I can't have'em does not really help, I think ;) Thanks anyway for adressing my issue. Thanks again for having a look into this. *thumbs up* :) //edit: maturin, re-read your posting again: Is there actually something like ammo slowing down and causing no more cracks after traveling a given distance? (in-game)

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

Hey Jarhead :) First of all I heave to agree, ofc, that your soundmod is completely amazing. I really like it a lot and a very glad some friends of mine pointed me to it. But still I got a question here: As I mainly employ suppressed weapons (mk16 sd/17 sd and g36 sd) I wondered if it was not the point of SD ammunition to fly at subsonic speeds and thereby avoid any kind of sonic crack which lets enemies locate you pretty quick. I honestly dont know if I'm the only one experiencing this, but with beforementioned weaponry and ammo I hear those sonic cracks (in 3rd person, camera tilted max sideways or in first person when a buddy fires a sd weapon from somewhere behind me) Now, the question is: Is this an intended effect (because realistic, not solvable otherwise or sth) or was it just missed to adress this minor detail? Thanks for your efforts :D cheers
  5. Now, thanks MadDogX. Your suggestion hinted me to the solution, which makes me feel kind of dumb -_- My executable was named "arma2.exe" in the explorer. In the registry i found that it was named "arma2.exe.exe" in full. So messing around with the folder options few days ago - and after that, renaming my exe from crysis64 to arma2.exe - messed things up for me because the file's endings were now hidden (when they were not before...) Well, thanks again for your help (cant still believe that i just forgot to check on the names -_-) Topic may be closed! (or even better: deleted, to hide/cover my stupidity ;) )
  6. Yea, that was it.. 4*bin and 1 exe. Burned them to dvd anyway because at that time i set up my system anew every 3 days and didnt want to have to d/l them every time. Now, it'd be nice to know what exactly is checked (which eventually leads the installer to the conclusion something is damaged) right after the extraction of the beta-package.
  7. Running 1.03, german version. Purchased from gamesplanet.com, downloaded and burned the images on cd/dvd, installed from cd/dvd.
  8. Hey folks. Since it fixes several bugs and so forth, I wanted to install the latest beta patch. Unfortunately it wont let me. After the packed archive / installer is expanded, it tells me that my "Arma is not installed on this computer or the installation may be damaged". This problem occured also with any previous beta patches I tried. Now, I know the programm is installed and runs just fine when not trying to install this patch, thus cannot be damaged... Before trying a complete reinstall I though I hear you for some suggestions on this matter. So, any opinions? Thanks for your help :) Regards
  9. I do not expect word from the devs on this thread for a loooooooooooong time, not only because of them being busy (hopefully with coding patches to already known problems) but also of the scarce info you provide on your matter. Also, there are a lot of threads which do not only adress similar issues, but have users posting exact diagnoses of their crashes. Perhaps you should try the search function first and read those threads ... Anyway, this post would not be constuctive if I did not give you some advice, again. Your PC crashing from the game can be caused by several problems, as you might well know. First off, try to increase your fan speed manually (as I told you to do two threads above). I'd say 70% of all crashes are related to overheating-issues (yeah, even when u think your pc is cooled sufficiently...) of the GFX-card, the CPU or the RAM. Then, you should take a look at post #56 from this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=84156&page=6 I personally did not read the whole thread (and thus cannot say whether this whole thread could prove useful to you - I wont do the work of reading it for ye), but in my experience crashes are mainly (after being caused by overheating issues) caused by the graphics driver. There are several tips, tricks and tweaks roaming this forum, you just have to do some reading work to do by yourself. Disable Aero, disable power saving options, set your OS to performance mode, rename your arma2.exe to crysis64.exe .... this are just a bunch of several minor, but really helpful ways to tweak arma. So, if you wait for a word of the devs, fine. But dont be angry with them when you send your copy of arma back to amazon if you did not try to help yourself (and get help by yourself by asking the other forum members) to get your problems solved.

    ArmA2 8GB RAM Problem

You did read other threads in the forum? You can either try the command line tag -winxp , which limits the RAM used to ~2GB, or you can manually remove (thats what I did) some RAM.
  11. Try to set your gfx-cards fan to a higher load in order to keep your temps down. Now, Nvidia cards are supposed to work fine even when they go into the high degrees. Obviously this is not true for Nvidia cards + Arma2. I had some serious problems too... I set my gfx card to 80% fan load when i begin to play. In the background, rivatuner protocols the temps. Up to 68°C everything works fine. But when temps start to peak into the 70ies, I get a black screen (game still runnning, though I got no graphics anymore... funnny, eh?) All I can do is guess what is the problem there. I dont think its the GPU - maybe the video-ram doesnt like to get hot? Anyway, give it a try. Either your problem will be solved or at least you can say "I tested that, too, but sigma was wrong" :P

    Crashing to Desktop.....

Try to increase your fan speed in a manner that your GFX-cards temps do not go over 60°C. I experience CTDs when temps go above this point (although the card should be fully operational and fine with way higher temps...) I dont say that it works... but its certainly worth a try, dont you think?

    Arma 2 instalation

What kind of dvd drive do you got? strange enough, i had some serious troubles with my IDE drive in the beginning, after switching to a sata drive i had no problems at all.
  14. Pushing this up again. Noone with an answer for me? @Poppis: Thanks for the link. Trying this out right now.

    1.03 frustrations

Now, I dont think Bulldogs has a glassphere in which is wirtten what the devs will bring/solve in the next patch. He finds, that the problem which he hoped that its ficxed is in fact not fixed. But still, he provides some other suggestion how to make the game work properly.. Many hopes did lie in the 1.03 patch. Most of the people thought that the devs would fix the hardware problems first. But no one could definitely say that they would. So, now, they did adress engine-issues first. But I think we can be sure that they are aware of the hardware-related problems and will start to fix'em. Anyway, _when_ they will be fixed no one can tell you but the devs. If they will be fixed everyone can tell you. Though some put more hope in their answer than others. But ranting and complainig (without contructive critisism) will hardly help. It may indeed demotivate more that it helps. I dont say that your complaint is not justified. But: I'm getting tired of all those "Not properly working, dont want you to give a chance to improve it, want my money back" threads and persons. How about helping to improve the game?
