datter 0 Posted July 18, 2009 Does anyone else get crashes/freezing when flying? I've posted about it on the tracker. Copy/paste below. DescriptionCrash/freeze when flying. I can play a single mission or in the editor on the ground all day with no problems. However if I get in an A-10 (or any airplane) and have a flight (even by myself in the editor) the game will freeze within a few minutes every time and I am forced to reset the computer. I can almost alt-tab back to WindowsXP at this point, but it does't work quite right. The game freezes, the system does not... but I still have to reset. If I get in a helo I can fly sometimes for 15 or 20 min, and other times for just a few minutes before the crash/freeze thing happens. Settings and specs in sig below. Heatseeker 0 Posted July 18, 2009 Does it happen at a specific location(s)? Like, when you fly close to the borders where the infinite land starts? I get heavy stuttering and cpu punishment whenever i go near the infinite land but i dont crash. Also, SLI or not your pc uses 512 MB of video ram, i think you should set video memory to normal, plenty enough for normal texture detail. And 190.38 are leaked quadro beta drivers wright? I wouldnt use them.. All i can think of..

I get heavy stuttering and cpu punishment whenever i go near the infinite land but i dont crash. I suppose that's possible, I haven't really paid much attention to where I am when the crash occurs. I'll look into that this evening. Also, SLI or not your pc uses 512 MB of video ram, i think you should set video memory to normal, plenty enough for normal texture detail. When set to default it alots for nearly 512mb as exepcted, besides which the freezes happen regardless of this setting. And 190.38 are leaked quadro beta drivers wright? I wouldnt use them.. 190.38 are beta yes, but provide a tremendous performance increase. This freezing issue was also noted in all previous drivers back to
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 18, 2009 Well, the problem with the borders was aknowledged and they are fixing it, for now i try to stay clear of them. As for the 190.38 drivers they are beta drivers available at nvidia, i gave them a try and the frame rate improved noticeably, good tip! Best of luck :) . datter 0 Posted July 18, 2009 Glad they worked out for you. As for my issue, maybe I'll avoid the borders for now and see how that goes. :)
wooly-back-jack 10 Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) good blog there, I'll try that threading setting (not sure if I have already tried that) Edited July 19, 2009 by wooly-back-jack
VI.Animal_Mother 10 Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) I get this too. Will Bohemia fix this in a patch or do I need to tweak the settings on my 260 card? (Hoping for the former...) ;) edit: I see on the bug tracker that this problem is "resolved". How can it be resolved when the author had to tweak hardware settings? Shouldnt this be addressed by patching the game itself? Edited October 4, 2009 by VI.Animal_Mother found new info
VI.Animal_Mother 10 Posted October 4, 2009 Ok, i adjusted HW settings as explained in bugreport (single display optimalisation, forced vsynch, disabled multithreading) I was able to play much longer in helicopter, but finally crashed my client (freeze screen, unable to access task manager). I think there is a significant memory leak in the arma2 client pertaining to the graphics card. Balls. On the upside, my fps was much much improved.

Am now able to play for quite a bit longer, but it will still inevitably crash.
