Longknife 0 Posted March 15, 2002 I just now read your reply to the release of the Oxygen tools for the community and I have to tell you, I am pissed. I'm not a model maker, hell, I'm not even a skinner. I just don't have all that much time to learn to do either well. But, having been a long time fan and consumer of Tom Clancy's games, and more recently of Flashpoint, it has always been the added mods developed by the communities that support the games that has kept it fresh and new. Your choice to not release the tools fully, to the community stinks of greed and paranoia. YOU HAVE BIT THE HAND THAT FED YOU. After reading your reply and the opinion listed on Axle Online, I have removed Operation Flashpoint from my computer, scratched the CD and placed it in the trash. Not only will I no longer support a game, with my wallet, that so pointedly sticks it's nose up at it's own reason for success. I will not buy any future product with your companies name related too it. Thier are simply too many quality games available which will keep me entertained with wonderful modifications, without a need for me to be nickel and dimed to death for such lackluster tid-bits as a motorcycle! Ghost Recon, is by far superior to OFP in look, playability, support and availalbe public tools. And I imagine that future releases will provide the same elements that intially were enjoyable in Operations Flashpoint, at the level seen in GR. You are correct that you are not under any obligation to release the tools to the community. LIkewise, I and others are under no obligation to support this game with further purchases. I for one will not. And I suggest others to do the same. Thank you.
ALDEGA 0 Posted March 15, 2002 First. If you think GR is a better game, then why are you here posting this? Posting this shows that you care about OF. Second. The Rainbow6 games do NOT have any editing tools. The only tools released thusfar were some undocumented 3dsmax plugins for Rogue Spear (3DSMAX is incredibly expensive, so many gamers can't use these at all, legally that is), which were released like a year and a half after the release of Rogue spear. Now Redstorm will be releasing some plugins (same as with rogue spear) on their ADDON DISK. Dont you have a problem with that? In the end there are (I believe) very few, if none, user made levels for Rogue Spear.

Concerning playability, im my oppinion, GR vs OFP: I played GR demo for 1 hour, then got tired of messy controls I am still playing OFP Why such anger towards BIS? At least they have decided to release it anyway, even if its not ready. Sure, its to more dedicated fans and mods (actually only fans, they give it to individuals, not groups) and not everybody, but I guess there are many games out there that hasnt even seen a modkit, let alone such an advanced kit as BIS. Go complain on them instead.
Guest Posted March 15, 2002 I think the important thing to remember is that the BIS have chosen to release the tools to those people who will produce quality mods and IMO has primarily done this through the use of EULA's to avoid people getting hold of the tools to make unofficial addons that will cost $ or Å's. The mod support for GR and RS is pretty awfull to be honest. There's not even a current 3dsmax R4 plugin. RSE released some sort of map plugin for RS well after the game was dead and only a few hardcore RS fans were still playing, hence the lack of maps. Please dont flair up a GR vs OFP debate again, it's been discussed to death and I'll be forced to close this thread.
Major Fubar 0 Posted March 15, 2002 To me, ghost recon isn't a patch on OFP, for playability, flexibility and overall enjoyment. The map areas are tiny (compared to OFP), missions extremely linear, and campaign far too short. Thats my opinion anyway. Basically I was very disappointed with it, just rogue spear with bigger maps and a handful of vehicles. In response to your dramatic response to the Oxygen tools, man, you uninstalled the game, scratched the CD and threw it in the bin? Really? No offence, but I know 8 year old kids who can handle dissapointment with a more mature response. I think you bought into Axle Online's propoganda a little too seriously. This is not to say I'm all that happy with the way BIS handled the release of these tools, but I'm hardly going to deprive myself of the most kick-ass military game of all time over it.
