Microphone Issues

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My first post, hopefully my last one too except of course to say thanks for the help.

I am currently trying to get my headphone/mic set up to speak in ission. When I first set up the game, I did not have it set up at all, however, I set it up afterwards it is a zalman headphone/mic combo. Running on a creative audigy gamer card with all the latest drivers on win xp nvidia 260 setup with 2 gig of ram......yadda yadda ... Game works pretty well but laggy....however my big concern is that even while I am typing here I am able to hear myself in mic/headphones...I hear others in game and have set up the keys such that push to talk is the +on the Number pad, with combinations thereof......I cannot get anyone to acknowledge me at all.

Any Ideas?

have you checked your windows settings for you sound/mic? make sure microphone boost is on, and I have my xmit volume at 80%.

Comms ingame is default on capslock. If you dubble tapp it wil stay on indefinate or till you quit the server, so to not annoy everyone on server have a look at your left bottom part of screen to see when you are transmitting. Simply press capslock when you want to transmit and release when you got your message out.

Most soundcards will have the microphone activated, or at least the onces i bought, so it will allso send feed back to your headphone speakers. In other words you will hear in your headphones everything the microphone is picking up, most people would like to turn that off... thus cutting you off from the outside world when you got your set wrapt around your ears. You will we able to do that in your sound configuration display that comes with your soundcard, just make sure its a red "/" sign over your microphone icon wich will block you hearing the microphone on the speakers. This wil ofc not effect your transmission, only what you will be able to hear on your end. Easy check if its turned on or off is to put your headphones on and start typing, normally you should not be able to hear that happening. Depending on your OS there are different ways to activate microphone boost, but first try keeping your microphone no more than a finger lenght away from your mouth and dont be shy when you talk :) Then try upping the voice settings in the program you want to use.. if that doesnt work then activate mic boost in your control panel (windows). Personally i use the game Voip, Team Speak and Ventrilo when i play games and the settings for next program is ofc diffrent from the last one. However mic boost will affect all.

Be sure to talk to the right com channel ingame. If your all alone in the woods then direct communication would only go as far as the surrounding trees, hopefully they wont talk back or your in the wrong game my firend. You will be able to choose diffrent channels på pressing "." and "," or "-" then arrows, this allso true for typing messages.

Hope it helps !

Hello cri74,

I went in and checked all that you mentioned.......when I double tap caps lock, nada...but not to worry, thats becuase I have all my comms set up on different buttons. I can see various mics, for eg. one for global, one for side channel etc etc... when I talk into it, no one ever responds... and I put deodorant on this morning too...and I know my breath doesn't smell so that can't be it......strange.............plus creative says it's all working fine....so is microsoft

If im not mistaking then windows mixer and direct sound is responsible and not you smelling bad. Try updating and cheching so the game has accsess to the system. Allso, if you are using two soundcards like i am (X-fi gamer + onboard) i need do deactivate the onboard for the X-fi gamer to work ingame voip. Try recording something and use a playback to check that the mic is working as it should.

Other than that i am out of ideas at this time of morning 6:16 am.. oh, one more. You can wait till i get home from work then try talking to me on my server.

How do I check that the game has access to the system? The version I have I believe to be the latest as it was downloaded recently from directtodrive.com a couple days ago, version 1. something..... (not zero)

This is pretty much pissing me off. I will doble check the recordable functionality but it seems that if I can hear myself, then in fact it should record too.....

Have you tried more than one server? Some server's I've ran into don't have the VON working and rely soley on TS or Ventrillo for voice chat. I ran into this today by not being able to get anyone to hear me through VON in one server, while two other servers worked just fine.

Edit: However if others are talking through VON and still can't hear your mic, then it's on your end somehow. Does your mic work on other applications like Windows Sound Recorder? I know it's a silly question, but it's always good to check.

I cant seem to figure out if my mic is working in game or not.

Using ventrillo it works but using Windows 7 sound recorder its not.

I cant get people to reply to my voice online in arma 2.
