mashimocs 10 Posted July 11, 2009 Like many people I am getting the CRC errors during installation. I have new pc well above the recommended requirements. Both of the optical drives are fully updated with the latest firmware. Im running XP Pro (also fully up to date) Ive tried various so called fixes. Swapping drives, copying an image of the dvd onto the pc etc. Nothing working  Heres the biggest pisstake. I have succesfully installed it onto my sons pc (Vista) also more than powerfull enough to run the game!!! I tried copying the installed components over to my pc only to get a cd key issue. Is it possible to install the game over a network? Knowing my sons pc will install the game using his bog standard DVD drive:mad:
icfhoop 0 Posted July 11, 2009 I had the same problem as you, so I understand your frustrations lol. This is how I and a few others fixed it. Put the DVD into your son's computer but dont do anything such as install. From there go to My Computer>Right Click on the ArmA2 Disc, and click explore. Then copy everything in there over to a USB/ External HD. Then transfer it over to your computer. From there look into the folder with the copied contents, and double click setup and it will be just like any other install process, just from your computer instead. Hoped this helps you, if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Just need to get hold of a big enough USB pen :o Its stupid that they release these games that obviously have massive problems. I did try and network install it but it keeps telling me I have no space on mine  even though there is.. Maybe its just a security thing on the dvd itself! icfhoop 0 Posted July 11, 2009 Are you copying the files from the INSTALLED game ? or directly from the disk?
mashimocs 10 Posted July 11, 2009 Are you copying the files from the INSTALLED game ? or directly from the disk? Ive tried both ways:( BI dont seem to be issuing a fix for this do they... As long as the £££ keeps rolling in they couldn't give a crap. Well this will be the last BI product I'll be buying and thats for sure.
icfhoop 0 Posted July 11, 2009 Hang on, hang on, walk me step by step on what you did when you copied the files directly from your disc please.
Alex72 1 Posted July 12, 2009 Really sounds like its something messing with you on your end and not the game itself. Because i never heard of this problem amongst everyone i know, and i never had problems installing any of BIS games myself. As icfhoop said though: Please let us know exactlly step by step how you tried to install it, and hopefully we can help. We dont want you to miss out on ARMA2. :) Alex
mashimocs 10 Posted July 12, 2009 (edited) I tied to cloned the DVD 1:1 onto the other system burnt the image and copied it to mine. I have also copied the installed directory onto mine, replacing any missing dll's and no luck. Ive now managed to get hold of an 8gb card so am at this moment copying the contents of the dvd onto that (using the working system) to try and run an install from that.. EDIT - Ive also noticed that the most frerquent faliures are air.pbo or characters2.pbo Edited July 12, 2009 by mashimocs
OverDawg 10 Posted July 12, 2009 I'd say use your son's DVD drive to install the game. I also had CRC errors so I could not install the game. Finally, after trying 3 different DVD drives I found one that worked.
JoeyNickel 10 Posted July 12, 2009 What worked for me: - create an ISO image of the DVD on your HDD - extract the contents of the ISO with WinRar or whatever - install from the extracted contents on your HDD - start the game with the original DVD in your optical drive
mashimocs 10 Posted July 12, 2009 Firstly a big thank you to all those who've tried to help. I've finaly installed it. It took near on 45 minutes but hey maybe it'll be worth the wait. I booted to safe mode, and firstly tried to install from the pc, no luck as its crashed on characters2 again. So I tried from the DVD as one last atempt and it installed  See you all in game. I'll be the noob running around without a clue :D
MaxJay 10 Posted July 13, 2009 so you installed the game in safe mode and this worked thats all you did?
mashimocs 10 Posted July 13, 2009 Yes, for some reason booting in safe mode made it work  very odd. And it was installed direct from the DVD, it did take almost 45 minutes though. However I am having even more problems with the patch. I've tried 7 different copies of it (one I know for certain works) and every PBO throws up an error  Anyway today I'm updating the chipset on the mobo, Sata drivers, and maybe even BIOS if it comes to it. Yoma 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Could be that you have memory problems on your pc. Run memtest for a night and see if it finds any errors also remove any overclock you may have applied.

Once I've eliminated any Mobo driver problems and if that doesnt cure it I'll take a look at the memory. Thanks for the suggestion

mashimocs 10 Posted July 13, 2009 Well. All that done the patch still throws a wobbler on every PBO(this includes the ones I downloaded at work) I have a feeling this could be a windows fuckup. I have just noticed boot.ini is missing from msconfig and its not letting me chkdisk either... Ive tried a few fixes but nothing doing. Im not really happy to do another XP installation (The system came with XP HE, I've reformatted and gone with XP Pro) I'll have a fiddle tonight and if I get no luck I'm taking the system into work and I'll get the techies to stick a copy of Vista on there see if that makes a difference. As for memtest one scan threw up a fault, another didnt, I've since reset the ram and am trying again. But like I say I'm blaming Bill for this one
Soapy 10 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) See my post here : http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?p=1362256#post1362256 ie A few friends at another forum pointed me here as I was having similar issues. My Main install was to my E drive, and the 1.02 patch would not apply, tried re installing and re dling patches, cleaning out the registry etc, still no joy. To fix it I installed on the default C drive ( after moving a lot of files so I still had plenty of space after the install, XP home, latest SP etc ) So after the re install, I ran one scenario but did not change vid options etc, then rebooted, ran the patch. On each error, I copied the file in question from the DVD to the installed folder, then hit retry, took a while longer to patch, but eventually it worked. Prior to that when I ignored the errors, I could play on some servers ( unsigned ones I guess ) but got kicked from signed servers as they assumed I had modified files. So, try to install to the default directory, play a scenario, reboot, apply patch, get error, copy the file from DVD to directory, hit retry in patcher etc. So far, no issues playing on any server, and the signed server my forum mates use is ok too Someone else posted about copying the files from the DVD to the install, kudos to them ( sorry I can't recall their name )/ Edited July 13, 2009 by Soapy update
mashimocs 10 Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks for that. I've decided to copy the BI folder containing a working copy of 1.02 over my 1.01 TBH it cant get any worse than it is. If this fails I'm goona get vista stuck on tomorrow, nice fresh install. I really do think that its my current OS installation thats causing the problems.
