Psychic AI?

I made a quick standard night-time sniping mission a while ago - come in under the cover of darkness across several patrols, kill person, sneak out.

However, I could never kill the guy as the generals body guards would fire back after a few seconds.

The third time, I thought I'd try a new approach. Further out, and the guard's backs were facing me. I shot the general and lo and behold, they slowly turn around and start shooting where I am.

It was dark out, I was in a ghille suit, and in the middle of a forest. So how exactly did two men see my muzzle flash with their backs turned? These men weren't laying down suppressive fire mind you, they were taking well aimed shots to where I was..

Using demo, btw.

Welcome to armed assault... The AI is incredibly over powering, with super human like vision and accuracy.

I was playing some co-op online yesterday and was sniping some crewman that jumped out of a t90 that had just been hit by AT.

I had to aim about half a centimeter above them for the bullets to drop onto them, yet they kill me within 20 seconds with crewman weapons (ak74su) from about 7-800 meters away...

Well if they jump out of hit T90 and stood like plonkers you would be angry also,i understand fully where your coming from though it is annoying just how great they see you, even if you turn their accuracy down.

If you kill any AI soldier, all his group will automatically know where you are. This is being fixed in the next patch.

Indeed, the psychic AI can be annoying sometimes.

others examples with AI tanks and crews :

- very often when you hit a tank with an AT weapon, it will know your position in seconds and kill you (no matter where you are),

- when the tank is critically damages, the crew will bail out and immediately shoot you, sometimes you don't even have time to switch weapons or hit the dirt that you are already dead :eek:,

- tanks & crews seems to be incredibly spiteful : the one who hit the tank first will be killed first. Even if you are half hidden behind cover and you have an AI teammate (equipped with an RPG) standing in the open, it will kill you first (and it will ignore your teammate as long as it hasn't killed you or as long as your teammate hasn't shot at the tank)

Hi all

When you fire AT there is big sign over your head saying he is here! In ArmA and in reality.

When you fire a rocket or recoil less warhead(M136 type) both have a massive fire signature. Rockets have a big trail of smoke pointing right at you. Recoil less weapons have a giant back blast of sound, smoke, flame and dust. Fire either weapon type and your camouflage is FUBAR. Act accordingly.

Plan the attack

When using short range AT weapons the best solution is to gang up on a the target, work as a team, synchronize your firing, call ready to fire, then the leader gives a count of three. Have a personal protection squad (PPS) with the tank hunters.

Smoke the target.

Look to get rear aspect, where there is less armor. But be aware the crew will be able to jump out.

Fire from a defilade spot:

In town down an alley.

Out in the open look for dead ground you can back over and rocks you can duck behind.

NEVER EVER reload or change weapon where you fired, GET TO COVER FIRST.

T90s and TUSK should never be tackled by less than a 3 man team of AT plus a PPS. T72s not less than 2 AT plus a PPS. All others can be taken out by single AT but a PPS is still needed. The PPS's job is to scout and give a perimeter and suppress supporting elements, smoke the target and kill any crew that escape.

Really good advices there walker, thank you very much.

The test scenarios I used were highly unrealistics but for some reasons I kept doing them (and I kept getting unhappy with the results, doh!).

There is no thermal imaging systems for tanks in ArmA 2 (to help detect vehicles, humans and rockets launch) but from now I will just use my imagination and do as if TIS was simulated (at least for AI tanks) :p.

About psychic AI...... I did the "Dogs of War" mission with my Medic as a driver for my T72, heading towards the enemy. Only machineguns were in sight, the bullets hit the tank, not even any scratches. But........ they killed my driver inside the tank. Ok, I thought, next try turn the tank 90 degrees to the enemy, so they won't be able to kill him through the peephole. No way, those MG bullets were not only armor piercing, the also would fly around the corner ;)

I started an earlier savegame and avoided the region :D

That AI is really incredible...... maybe Arma2 simulates grass which might add some camouflage, but even with NVG I will be hardly able to see any enemy in cities where the light is blinding me. Those guys will shoot me with their AKs from half a mile while me hiding behind concrete blocks.

This game is very frustrating and shouldn't of been launched without the proper beta testing.

For instance, the grass detail changes with every step you make like there's a wave on the floor. The same with trees too, don't get me wrong these are not things that create the backbone of the game play but when the foliage around is F***ing jumping around you start to wonder how they hell they missed it.

Apart from that ( and many very very annoying things) its great!

wtf does this have to do with AI? all you're talking about is the streaming engine where it loads objects into higher detail the closer you get; it's not a bug. Yes, sometimes it looks bad; but it's been like this since Arma1 and maybe even OFP.

I just felt like adding that, why you beefing on the internet you geek.

It is a fcking bug, because it bugs me and looks fckin stupid ok?

I don't remember walking through a field and suddenly a tree changes form and the grass grows below my feet as I walk!

This game is soo realistic.
