Steaksauce1337 0 Posted July 6, 2009 Marines use the LCAC (Hovercraft) for beach and amphibious assaults. Would be really nice to have one of these so we could get vehiles from the carrier to shore. I personally would like to see a warfare game that started with marines on a carrier with the ability to assault any shore on the map. I was really pleased to see the AAV added. icfhoop 0 Posted July 6, 2009 I do believe someone here is working on an LCAC. Not sure just have to search around, but I like your idea of a warfare map like that.
frederf 0 Posted July 6, 2009 An LCAC would mean a LSD and/or LPD amphibious assault ship to carry them. As you've noticed the entire ship complement for the 27th MEU is the single LHD which would indicate not the full complement of gear on purpose.
Steaksauce1337 0 Posted July 6, 2009 http://www.acu4.surfor.navy.mil/Site%20Images/LCAC%2069.jpg LCAC.. not an lsd or ship.
frederf 0 Posted July 6, 2009 I don't think you understand. An LCAC is not a ship you drive half way around the world in the ocean. It is carried inside LSD and LPD naval vessels until deployed for short range movements. No LSD/LPD = no LCAC.
Steaksauce1337 0 Posted July 7, 2009 i'm well aware the lcac is not an ocean going vessel. that point is irrelevant. it would be nice to have something to get vehicles off the ship and onto shore. I mean.. maybe i didn't make that clear enough the first time with my explination of a shore assault type mission. I understood perfectly, no need to explain it like im an idiot so as to profess your military knowledge in the hopes you appear to know more than I do with the sole purpose of boosting your ego. I'm pretty sure I wouldnt post suggesting to add something I knew nothing about. Apparently you seem to think im a moron and think of the lcac as a guided missile frigate or something. Now it would be nice to make one post without a senior know it all member adding their 2 cents so as to make lesser members look stupid or bitching about a repost. Most fail to realize questions could be answered in half the time it took to find the previous post and link it. This is the executive officer. That is all. frederf 0 Posted July 7, 2009 On a more directly-applicable note, to have the LCAC be of any practical use whatsoever, it has to be able to carry vehicles, likely using an attachTo script suite which is not going to happen in a BIS release. Thus, as a suggestion in the ArmA2>Suggestions forum, it is not a good idea. If this were in the ArmA2>Addons:Discussion forum, that would be another matter. ajsarge 10 Posted July 8, 2009 Steaksauce1337, you are not getting his point. Without an LSD or LHD (landing ship dock or landing helicopter dock? for those that are unfamiliar with the terms) homeship, there is no reason to be using an LCAC in Arma2's setting. What, are you going to load up your vehicles on the shore, hover out offshore, and then just move to another beach, when it's easier to just drive there? It makes no sense in-game to have an LCAC when the Khe Sahn isn't capable of supporting it. Though it would be cool to have a working LCAC in-game, it's just not...it just isn't going to happen. jakerod 254 Posted July 8, 2009 (edited) You could just have a script so that you start off with lets say 10 LCACs with stuff already on them. From there you move to the shore at any given point and start the invasion. Resupplies can be given by driving out to any given point, possible a point where the Khe Sanh is and they will be camcreated onto the LCAC. Use your imaginations. EDIT: ??? That looks familiar. Helmut_AUT 0 Posted July 9, 2009 The included ship is an LHD, which can carry at least one or two LCACs. We'd need a well-deck mod to fully use it, but just on theory you don't need an LPD or LSD to explain the LCAC. The way I understood it, LPDs are usually heavy on personell, LSDs carry LCACs and Amphibs/APCs, LHDs Air and Airmobile Troops, not much landing craft. But that's not a rule. jakerod 254 Posted July 9, 2009 BIS could always edit the LHD model to add the rear bay. Even if they didn't I would still rather have an LCAC than not have an LCAC.
