I'm in the Canadian Army myself since two years and an half and the only one in my family to be in military career was my grandfather and he was in the infantry too!

I chose the Army because that asks for much more physical movements and stamina during a training or a real battle and there's more varieties... according me it's simply more interesting!

BTW if I was as American nationality I'd choose the Marine for sure... there, its action! wink.gif

*Sings* They put me in the infantry, but I couldn't be all I could be..

...so they put me in white and sent me to sea, but that didn't agree with me...

oh oh oh oh.. the airforce is the place for me.. the airforce is the place to be..

yea my dad was in a submarine as a electrition, he had some interesting stories like when he and the crew went up to the north pole for a visit, they broke through the ice and went around on the survace. he said it was like -30 up there and it was during the summer. he also told me that it was so crowded in the sub that a lot of the crew had to sleep right next to the missile silos, he was in the type of sub that launches missiles on land targets. wonder if there were any nukes in those silos, might have been interesting

If I joined a branch it would be the Navy...

body's too weak because of asthma that won't go away for USMC but my dad was USAF and my grandfather USN and i think my great grandfather USMC but i'm not sure about that one. then my great uncle was in army air core as an engineer in B-17s. lots of military in my family. if i had to choose would probably go for Navy. less physical.

Erm...am I the only one to point out that this choice of occupation includes a VERY HIGH risk of injury/death!?

I am only 20...but well aware of my mortality.

Would that make me a bad soldier, or does it rule out soldiering already for me?

ur the first to say it here but every1 knows it.....its fien to be aware of ur own mortality cos it makes you more crefull to preserve ur own life and those of ur men..but you cant be a coward and essentially when the situation arises you must do wot you have to do....and if it means putting urself in mortal danager then ud have too.and if you join the forces you should be aware of that and know that someday you may need to endanger yourself in order to do your duty.

Soldiers are more likely to die in the most common cause of death....road accidents. In Bosnia shit loads have died but most of its cuased by going to fast. Doesnt help racing Warriors around Mt Igman either. 1 in 200 die every year on the road

After I get my degree I'm headed to the R.A.F. hopefully to be a pilot. Fighters or HELOs would be real nice.

I've grown up in Belfast and that's the only thing that may stop me from joining the military, my community would frown on me serving in British forces; not that I really give a sh*t what they think anyway. It's the thought of maybe never being able to return home that gets me.

I know exactly what you mean Hawkeye, when I was in Londonderry there were Loyalists and Protestants both recruting young teenages all the time.

I am sorry for you lot that have this hassle, there are tonnes of you in NI that want to jion the armed forces but cant becuase of your family.

I say you join and stick the middle finger up to everyone when you leave. Then live somewhere else

ASSAULT...

I'm Reserve right now in the 48th Highlanders of Canada, Alpha Company.

To the beginning I was in the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, 60th Company... there I got my hard time... well it was hard for everyone, really tough trainings all days but some weekends after only 2 weeks!

here's the website of the 48th Highlanders of Canada... if you want some infos  wink.gif

http://www.48highlanders.com/acoy_cover.html

I tell you right now that I'll go in the Regular really really soon for sure, maybe this year but this is a big decision... so I'm training and waiting the good moment, but the military is my life and I like it so much and when I was a young boy that was my only thought in class biggrin.gif, but the time is running out so quickly  confused.gif

Are you in the Canadian Armed Forces yourself?

I hope some replies... see ya.

Everyone knows when they have reached their breaking point... Some last their entire career.. serve in several conflicts and don't reach it. Others think about their wife.. or kid.. girlfriend.. and think I can't do this anymore.

At that point though, a true soldier would say "I've lost the edge" and would retire.. or transfer to a non-risk job in the forces.

Just because you don't want to die doesn't mean you can't be a soldier.

Hell, although I'm not afraid of dying, I still don't want to be around when it happens. biggrin.gif

hm well seriously I don't think the danger to die is higher when you're soldier than the little African boy in the ZaÄre, Congo or in Ethiopia right now...

They are saying that you've more chance to die with your hands on your steering than on your rifle and for me it's true!

I prefer to die over there than in my car... its my thought.

By the way that doesn't means im a soldier with suicidal tendencies wink.gif ... I just prefer to have a death which I will have served for my country, for the world and for something of great than a death for nothing here... isn't it? confused.gif

The death ain't good... but you're not choosing your day of death, I can die by going to do my grocer's shop tomorrow night then it would be the worst death of my life, on the other side... on the battlefield it would be the best one nevertheless!

That's my voice on the death!  confused.gif

I'm personally not really 'afraid' of death... it just doesnt register, even if i think about it, I cant see myself dying. I guess ive just never been in a situation where it was a consideration. Does that make me a 'good' soldier? I dont think so...
