polecat.uk 11 Posted June 30, 2009 My pc when playing crysis will run very hot, ie my fans all start to up there speed but when playing arma2 it runs very cool at about 70c for the gpu (just ticking over as thats what i get just sitting on my desktop), i cant understand why its not using the full power of my gpu as im running the game on 3 22" monitors without any problems but i have to run it on a low res, ive tried running it at a higher res but when i do i lose my sound  i was thinking of getting a new card (285gtx) but if the games not using my gpu to its fullist at the moment i dont think changing to a higher spec gpu would make much of a diffrence, any thoughts? Beagle 684 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Sometime I cant und3erstand what strange Problems people tend to have. I run this game on very high setting on a Athlon 64 X2 6000 with ATI HD3870 no overclocking. It runs decent, looks good..what the hell ist the Problem...??? Do you really need a game that kills your hardware ? Remember...stressing your hardware will decrease it's lifetime. I'm very happy that the times are over when every new game forced you to upgrade something all 6 months. Edited June 30, 2009 by Beagle
Bulldogs 10 Posted June 30, 2009 It's actually not that straight forward with graphics cards. A graphics card isn't purely GPU, it's a whole lot of parts (like shader processors and such), if part of your card isn't powerful enough to do the heavy lifting then the rest of your card isn't going to carry it. (different parts of the card are used for different things) So upgrading a card will increase overall performance of all the parts, not just the GPU. Hope that made sense, 'cause I kinda confused myself.

I don't think both of your GPUs working in 3D mode. I know that for long nVidia could not run SLI+Multi monitor at the same time. May be it was fixed? 1. Are you running in SLI or just Dual GPUs for multi-monitor? Multi-monitor and no SLI means only one card crunching 3D another is doing splitting of V output. 2. There are also reports that suggest renaming arma2.exe to fear.exe and setting nVidia profile for it helps to enable SLI. CF and SLI is still very flaky with most games and most of the time supported by titles that drop huge amounts of cash on ATI and nVidia so that they specifically tweak drivers for those games.
