What is the reference point for "o'clock" communications?

When someone in my squad says "Man. 12 o'clock. Close" or whatever, is he talking about my 12 or his own 12?

If the system is still like OFP/ARMA1 then it's the squad leader position. You should always be in the right formation spot. 1,3,5,7,9, on the left side of the leader and 2,4,6,8 on the right side. So when someone in your squad says "Man. 12 o'clock if your not the squad leader and your in the right spot in the formation you should have a good idea and if you are the leader it's right infront of your face lol. I could be wrong but I think not!!!

they should change it to N, S, E, W, NW, NE, SW, SE.

How do you get that AI reports enemies by saying "12 o'clock"? I get only "right of us, left or in front of us"?
