Please, implement Freetrack on ArmA2.

Would you like the possibility to use Freetrack on ArmA2?

  1. 1. Would you like the possibility to use Freetrack on ArmA2?

    • Yes, please.. I'd be very pleased for having this option of head tracking too!
    • Sure.. It would be very nice to try this Freetrack lark with Arma2.
    • No, thanks.. (explain why, if you wish).

it showed that 28% of the arma players with head tracking devices, use freetrack...

Sure, but what percentage of Arma players use any kind of head tracking? It's not traditionally associated with "FPS" type games, more flight sims, so people using any kind of head tracking is probably like 10 or 20% of the customers, if that. 28% of 20% is not very much. :)

Perhaps we should feel glad to have any kind of head tracking option at all in the game.

I still think it'd be a good idea, but there's lots of other good ideas the devs could be spending their time on that would benefit 90% of the players, and it's they who get to prioritise their time.

I have TrackIr4 + clip with version 5 and voted:

"Sure.. It would be very nice to try this Freetrack lark with Arma2."

If "there is nothing going "behind", there is no exclusivity for NaturalPoint with the TrackIr", i personally don't see a Truly negative reason not to do it. If BIS decide to support it i only see benefits if its done and a possibility to make ArmA2 even more popular. ArmA2 would probably get more ArmA2 lovers/fans with it then without it.

To be honest if BIS have the possibility to do it easily i strongly suggest and recommend to do it, so people feel and know they have different options.

Again, it is good to present several possibilities to a mean as purpose.

Suma: Belive it or not but there might exist more users for the freetrack then for the TrackIr.

Hope people can have what they want because i believe ArmA2 is a game for life.

edit:

ps- by the way, please have a read to my My ArmA2 Demo feedback "area" ;)

Because I see little reason to do so. I am sorry, but we are unable to support a device which is very little widespread. There is nothing going "behind", there is no exclusivity for NaturalPoint, but TrackIR installed base seems to be a lot larger that FreeTrack has, which is why we have built in support for TrackIR but not for FreeTrack. Once there will be more FreeTrack users, we can reconsider the support again.

Strange to see this quote from you Suma, if anything including full support for "ALL" head tracking devices is what would make your game more popular? So now we no there is no agreement with BIS and NP why not include the Freetrack API? If anything to make the game a big seller I would be including it if I was on the dev team.

Lets just hope Codemasters include it with their's then :p

Ignoring a moderator's instruction is not acceptable.

Unfortunately, they closed this last thread (that was the 3th time - or possibly more - doing this), because of some ignorants that insists to mention other entities at the topic.

My question is: why they just don't edit the unwanted posts, like this: "this post was edited by the moderator because it inflicted the forum rules and the moderator advertisements."? That's what any other normal foruns do. Why keeping closing the threads, then?

We tried that, again and again, instead of closing the thread we posted warnings, deleted posts, warned posters, unfortunately there's something about the issue that it seems the followers of Freetrack simply cannot abide by simple instruction to not discuss/criticise/attack Naturalpoint. I explained why that wasn't acceptable previously.

We have thousands of forum members, 100s of new posts/threads daily, it's simply not acceptable for one thread to be using up so much moderating time day after day after day.

How hard is it to implement a 6 values code?

Everything takes some time. In this case: You need to study the API / specs first. Then you need to read the inputs and process them (this will most likely be very similar to what we are already doing for TrackIR). Then you need to create UI so that users can adjust their preferences. Finally you need to test the thing. It is not something you will finish in one hour.

Time spent implementing this is time taken from implementing other things. In the weeks to come, I cannot see how would I justify to spend our resources on this.

I repeat: there is no prejudice, there is no "we will never implement FreeTrack" stance from our side, only in current situation I see little reason to do so. Once we see this kind of input is popular enough to justify the development expenses, we may reconsider this.
