Richieb0y 0 Posted June 26, 2009 Hi all i play on the Kellys heros servers because of the teamwork they do when admin is around. But i have a little probleem when a soldier or a anything else that is controlled by a human player is laging i mean when a soldier is walking it skips a couple of meters walking then i come again on the screens it kills the fun abit. So what is the best internet speed for arma2 i had 10Mbps today i upgrade to 30Mbps fiber power wil that make the diffrence any help thx:bounce3:
nedley 10 Posted June 26, 2009 Its probably the server mate. When they reach quite high capacity, some (maybe low bandwidth) servers will lag like this. It may depend on the sync with other players and their connection, but if its the AI lagging its usually you or the server. I would look for a server that my ping is no higher than 100 at any point. Sulu 10 Posted June 26, 2009 Heh your connection is definetly enough! I have played online perfectly fine with 0.5Mbps with 30/30 servers
easty 0 Posted June 26, 2009 Heh your connection is definetly enough! I have played online perfectly fine with 0.5Mbps with 30/30 servers I really don't think massive bandwidth is required.. as long as ping is below 50-60 and there's no packet loss it should be fine. I remember with OFP I used to have a 128k ISDN line and it was the best online play I ever had getting pings around the 20's. There worst killer from client side can be having something else running, like a bittorrent app ect.

[kh]jman 49 Posted June 27, 2009 Its probably the server mate. When they reach quite high capacity, some (maybe low bandwidth) servers will lag like this Our server is high end it's based in the UK it's colocated in Rapidswitch UK which is independently rated by SpeedTest.net as the fastest network in the UK, and third fastest network in the World. Thats all I'm gonna say anything else would be pointless.
Eclipse4349 1 Posted June 29, 2009 having too many players and AI on a server with a crappy cpu= the lag you are describing. It isn't always the internet.
walker 0 Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) Hi all To the OP even if you have the virgin 30 Mb if the guy you are looking at is running 1 Mb or heaven forfend the person is using a modem. Do not forget it is not just ping it is bandwidth. No matter how fast you are; you are only getting the speed that person gets when interacting between you two, add in other players interacting with them you loose more bandwidth. If they downloading a bitttorent, or songs for their iphone or fishing for pron or chatting on skype or teamspeak at the same time as playing remember that cuts their bandwidth too. That said I think it is far more likely, that you are seeing desync due to Jip lag. Jip lag is far worse where lots of data has changed between the start of the mission and the point you are at. Big dynamic scripts with lots of public variables on the server are a big cause. Optimise your server code and reduce the numer of variables it carries or that need syncing. A proper garbage collection script is a must for mission makers especialy for dynamic missions. Remove the dead boddies and the wrecks, maybe replant some of the trees and fix some of the road signs. If you are running the BIS modules it has a garbage collection module use it. Kind Regards walker Edited June 29, 2009 by walker
