DrGonzo 10 Posted June 9, 2009 Hi I'm trying to replace the original BIS island textures in Flashpoint with newer addon ones. I've already replaced some of them but I've found other better textures that have been released but it seems like their download links no longer work. These addons are discussed in this thread: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=4;t=49214;st=105 Does anyone know of any way to get these higher-res road and Everon textures? Specifically, the ones by Atherakhia and Symbiot? Thanks
rellikki 7 Posted June 9, 2009 Here: http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=10247 :) As for the Everon textures, they were never released, as far as I know.
DrGonzo 10 Posted June 9, 2009 Thanks And yeah, it looks like it. I searched the forums and on google but I couldn't find the Everon retexture. Ah, well.
marcomio 0 Posted June 10, 2009 Hello! Maybe You like to take a look at my project, which is currently stopped because of real life reasons (timeconsuming). I had already uploaded a bunch of textures and Island-variaties to filefront.com, and guess.........yeah, these guys again killed my uploaded files!!! Only the images left behind! If there is Interest, I will upload them to another place, where there can stay for download without beeing deleted without reason. Here is the link to my old mapfact topic: http://www.mapfact.net/forum_arma/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1826 rgds
DrGonzo 10 Posted June 10, 2009 @marcomio I looked at your project and the textures in it look really impressive. I'd always thought it was odd that OFP had so many high-res unit and vehicle addons but so few equally good terrain addons. It's certainly a very good idea for an addon and I'd definitely use it. I think that the high-res grass textures would work really well on a texture replacement for Everon. But it is, of course, up to you if you wish to continue working on it but I think the textures look really good and would work well in a texture replacement. And I'm sure other people who still play OFP would use them too. :D
overcharger 0 Posted June 11, 2009 @Marcomio Unfortunately I don´t speak german, but I saw the screenshots of your project and looks incredibly well. In the past I tried Mr. Burns set of OFP Islands and WGL texture replacement. The first one is a little laggy. The second one looks very well, but ocasionally the Berghoff´s Nature Pack causes weird sights with trees or bushes inside houses. I think is because the bigger size of the vegetation. I hope you can finish your work. Really looks great.
rellikki 7 Posted June 11, 2009 The textures look very good, marcomio. If you want, I can help you hosting them on ofpr.info, once you've uploaded them on a temporary host.
marcomio 0 Posted June 11, 2009 @ALL: Thanks for nice comments. Great to hear, that some community-members like this stuff! Now I feel encouraged enough to go on with it. Sitrep: I have already found one of my texture-files ("M2048.pbo") and the island kolgujev ("cain.wrp") which uses these textures. This will replace the default kolgujev island, so dont forget to back up your original first, once the files are ready for download! The island itself is free of other addons (objects). Other islands will follow, but this will last some time. @Rellikki Thanks for this great support!! I like to make use of your offer! As soon as all files are uploaded temporarely to filefront.com (I know, I know....) I pass you a notice, that you can download and host them on ofpr.info, before filefront is falling back to its bad behaviour. File-size will be 102 MB for the textures (in 7z-format), because of 2048 x 2048 pixel resolution instead of 512 x 512 default BIS size. The replacement of kolgujev weights only 1.6 MB ins the same format and is ready for download on filefront.com as follows: http://files.filefront.com/cain7z/;13888527;/fileinfo.html The texture-file will be uploaded tomorrow, because of the very bad upload speed (it will last round about 1 1/2 hours for this 102 MB). Installation Instructions will also follow, but they are easy enough to be written down here at once: M2048.pbo goes into operation flashpoint\Addons cain.wrp goes to operation flashpoint\worlds and replaces the default (backup the original before doing so). Note: This is - as I already mentioned on mapfact.net - not the real final version, but it is a suitable replacement for the default OFP-textures. There might be some little disharmonics at some transistion (rarely notable), but tweaking and making of texture-tiles is a timeconsuming work, if they should look well from far and from near distance. Once the files are released, everybody is free to modify them and release them, on condition that they give me proper credit. Enough written words, hope to get it done tomorrow. marcomio 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Hi, Rellikki! It is done: I have uploaded the texture file "M2048.pbo" to filefront.com, downlaodable under following link: http://files.filefront.com/M20487z/;13891099;/fileinfo.html Thanks again for Your kind support, I am happy to know my work beeing hosted on ofpr.info. rellikki 7 Posted June 12, 2009 Thanks, marcomio. Here's permanent mirrors by ofpr.info: Kolgujev texture replacements [100 MB] Kolgujev island replacement [1,56 MB] Would be nice if you could work on it more. Maybe replacements for the other islands too... Some more variety of the textures wouldn't be bad either, because at the moment everythings looks pretty plain. anguis 4 Posted June 12, 2009 Hello, I tried these out a few months back, they look great! How would one go about using these textures to replace those on, say, Mr. Burns' AEC Islands (I'm currently using these islands: I really like the trees)? Is it fairly easy? What would I need to do? Thanks for your work and any help!
privateguba 0 Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) What would really be cool is if someone found a way to port OFP Elite's grass to PC OFP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC1WMlDvHOc It's the perfect 'gameplay' grass. It looks good enough to break the 'bowling ball' aspect of the terrain and is sparse, short and semi-transparent to not get in the way when prone. The player never has the impression that the grass would hide him, and doesn't expect to see it at distance, since it's so sparse to begin with. I know it would break some © and isn't a simple pbo thing, probably an advance in the ofp engine that's more dificult to import. But it sure would combine nicely with new textures packs. It runs well on Xbox hardware, so would be completely lag safe on today's machines. Edited June 12, 2009 by privateguba
Sennacherib 0 Posted June 13, 2009 do you plan to create textures for desertic maps? for example north africa, sands/desert, and mountains/rocks? btw very nice job, on your textures, they give a good and new athmosphere to the map.:)

marcomio 0 Posted June 13, 2009 (edited) @Rellikki: Great! Thank you very much again for support! Maybe, you can host Everon with its seperate 2048x2048 textures too? Would be nice! Pls see below for download links: -------------- @ALL: Again thanks for compliments. It is nice to know, that people like this work. Take a look on the old mapfact.net archive, where you can find some screenshots of different texture resolutions (some experimental like the 4096 variant). I also have uploaded Everon with its own 2048x2048 textures to filefront, but for this one, you need to download a similar a seperate texture-pack called "ARMA_TEX". It dont used the M2048 one, because of slightly increased saturation of the colours and other texture variants for testing purpose. (At the first look, it seems to be the same, but placing a texture from M2048 next to one of ARMA_TEX, it dont fit). TEXTURE PACK "ARMA_TEX": Temporarely inactive, due to corrupted file msg. after downloading (tks Rellikki for info) Installation: Put it into ...Operation Flashpoint\Addons EVERON USING those "ARMA_TEX" Textures: http://files.filefront.com/Worlds7z/;13895102;/fileinfo.html Installation: Put eden.wrp and eden.rrp into ...Operation Flashpoint\Worlds and - as always - dont forget to back up the default files!! ------------- @Anguis: For this you have to load these Islands in the Wrp-Editor and replace the default textures with the texture names contained in e. g. M2048.pbo. Problem: I used some other descriptions than BIS. If you have a BIS Tile called "ptptpts2.pac" means, you have a tile showing mainly sandtexture with a quarter of rocktexture in the upper right corner. (I think so, because after converting bmp into paa/pac, some things will be mirrored). To differentiate between standard BIS-textures and my new ones, I used other descriptions for easily finding them in the big bunch of texture-types. In this case, my texture tile showing the same texture is called "s2 ro pt.pac", means s2 (=rock) is located ro (=rechts oben) on a mainly pt (=sand) texture-tile. Surely, If I or anybody else has the time to rename all the textures ( about 150+ in M2048.pbo), I really would appreciate this. Than some textures on most of the Islands would be much easier to replace. By the way, the old BIS-Islands uses 128x128, the newer 256x256 and at last Nogova the 512x512 variant, all with different texture-names and types. You see, the ammount of work for renaming the M2048 textures to their appropriate BIS-textures in 3 cases (128, 256, 512 - and different texture-names in all three files), is equal to replacing the textures with the "replace texture"-tool of the nice wrp-tool. ---------------- @privateguba: I also like to see a kind of grass like this. Maybe, there are some OFP-specialists, who can do something like this. Not to forget, that there are already some grass-objects done for OFP. But I hope - as to see in this topic - the OFP community will stay much more longer to this "old but good" game than many other might have thought. I also have ARMA, but OFP never disappeared from my harddisk! There is still enough room for pepping it up, I think. ----------------- @D@nte: There is a big ammount of rocky and stony groundtextures in the M2048-texturepack, but I have to make a little bit more different variations of them, to avoid a boring landscape. That will last some time, because I like to make some new texture-types for other islands too (if real life gives my time for this). ----------------- @OverCharger: Thanks, Maybe, I try to create desert textures in very high res (4096), but this would realy be experimantel, because of its filesize. At first I think to use the also suitable 2048 textures, and therefore some more different textures. But at first, I have enough to do (texturetypes). Hope, I have time enough for all this things. ------------------ Rgds marcomio Edited June 13, 2009 by marcomio
marcomio 0 Posted June 13, 2009 @Rellikki just for info: I sent you a pm with dl link from rapidshare for ARMA_TEX. I have uploaded it and downloaded it for testing, it works. marcomio 0 Posted June 17, 2009 Howdy, mates! GENERAL: Concerning the texture w.i.p., you have to be patient. Problem is, when adding a new texture to the existing textures of the map, wrp-toll already have a big load of them to handle. So it is very slow, before the map is loaded and I am able to add only 2 to 3 new textures to it, before the tool show the white flag with "not enough memory due.....". (I have 2 GB RAM, maybe I should get another 2 GB of it???!!!). URGENT REQUEST No. 1) DOES ANYONE KNOW A TOOL FOR BATCHCONVERTING PAC/PAA FILES?? I ONLY HAVE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT A PAA-PLUGIN FOR PHOTOSHOP, BUT THIS TOOL DOES NOT ALLOW BATCHCONVERSIONS! IF SOMEBODY HAVE AN IDEA OR ALREADY DONE SOME PROGRAM (my favourite) PLS LET ME KNOW. REASON: Due a Computer-crash long time ago, I lost the most of my Basic-Textures in TGA-format. Now, when I want to change saturation or colour-balance of actual textures, I have to decompress the pac/paa files from the Texture.pbo back to tga-format - always with a loss of Quality and colour-values. Besides, I have to convert and change values of every single Texture file (and this is very annoying when you have ca. 150 files and more...). I tried this with some specific textures and let the others untouched. After re-converting those files back to their pac- format and placing them on their old locations on the map in the wrp-tool, these textures dont fit with the colour-values of the old ones, non reworked textures (ugly differences...). So I am searching for a tool, which can change e. g. saturation of pac-files in a batch-conversion. URGENT REQUEST No. 2) Can somebody help me with changing the p3d-values ( I've never took a look at...). Problem: The default runway-textures of malden / everon must have a value, that they are not so bumpy like all other "ofroad"-textures. E. g.: When rolling with an vehicle on my new Taxiway/Runway, the aircraft/vehicle bumping around as it would drive offroad. Can it be, that these things base on the colour values (BIS-defaults)? A possible solution for me would be to create some invisible road-p3d's, which I would lay over the the runway-texture. But this couldnt be the real solution! BIS itself has only the texture-files and driving along them, you can smoothly speed up without any bumps etc.. Again, thanks to all of you guys for your kind support and help so far. That makes things much enjoyable and encouradged me to go on with texturing. (That means, dont mind about some dumb question too....). Kind regards, marcomio
ddeo 10 Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) Hey! Anyone have good texture replacements which are working with berghoff's natural pack 3 and 4? WGL Texture replacements were not working for me with natural packs (or at all, I dont remember). I'm downloading at this moment marcomio's textures from this thread for Kolgujev and Everon islands. I'll test them soon, but I would like also to use some great textures for Nogova and Malden. Any suggestions? Edit: Seems like texture replacements from marcomio aren't working with natural packs either (I have new textures, but without berghoff's trees, etc, game is using old ones). Help! ddeo 10 Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) MrBurnsAECislands Thanks Anguis. Everything is working fine, but after some testing and playing with those textures i had a feeling they don't fit to the game somehow. For example Kolgujev or Malden, from half desert islands are full of green environment now. I think I'll stick to old textures. Anyway, one more time thanks for help. :) Or maybe there are somewhere good, old textures, but in high-res? Edited December 11, 2009 by ddeo
anguis 4 Posted December 11, 2009 Ha! That's funny - I never really played with the originals, so I've never known the difference. When I first started playing, I saw the BurnsAEC screenshot in the old FFUR website and installed them right away. This was around 2004-2005 and I was coming over from a more recent game (Joint Operations), so I was keen on upgrading the visuals.
nikiller 18 Posted December 11, 2009 hi, Very nice work that's always nice to see visual upgrades for ofp because now new computers are able to handle it. The best retextured island I found is "Retextured Malden 2048" by symbiot and Atherakhia on ofp.info http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=9184 and the good thing with this addon is that it's only a pbo and you can run it like a mod folder, you don't need to replace the island in worlds folder. Maybe a noob question but why not make only a pbo like this malden to retexture the others islands? Need performances test in MP maybe make a 1024 version. Keep it up the good work. :) cya. Nikiller. ddeo 10 Posted December 11, 2009 Those textures for Malden are great! Big, big thanks for this link! :) Maybe a noob question but why not make only a pbo like this malden to retexture the others islands? MrBurnsAECislands posted by Anguis are working like this. Other files from this package are for berghoff's natural pack I guess. But newer (I think ;p) and a bit better trees made by berghoff can be found here, here and here. Download Nature pack 4 and CWC Converted Islands. For last file, Nature pack 3 v2.0 links are not working. But it's possible to download this file from polish site. I'm posting all working links here: BRG Nature Pack 3 v2.0 Nature Pack 4 Nature Replacement Pack (For Nogova) CWC Converted Islands Big thanks for the author of Natural pack.
