IceFire 0 Posted March 7, 2002 I was wondering if by getting upgrades or downloading new missions makes any changes to your cd. I am thinking about doing these things now, but I don't want them to mess with the actual CD that I bought. If I want to I should be able to uninstall everything and reinstall the CD, and make it like it was when I bought it. Also, should I take the CD out when I am dowloading patches, upgrades, and missions? I don't want them to change the cd. Maybe I should take the cd out while they are downloading just to make sure? Guest Posted March 7, 2002 Nothin can actually change the data on your cd as the data is actually physically burnt onto the cd so you don't have to worry about it.
Guest Posted March 7, 2002 Yep im absolutly shure, the only way that you could damage the cd would be to think you could "mix" and try and scratch it but thats another story
kegetys 2 Posted March 7, 2002 I would hope your Flashpoint cd is pressed instead of burnt
Guest Posted March 7, 2002 I always thought they where burnt onto the disc via a laser creating grooves.
RedRooster 0 Posted March 7, 2002 How's this...if any changes are made to your cd when you download a patch, I will personally send you $100 as well as my cd. That's how impossible it is for changes to be made. And manufactured cds are pressed, as they can fire through 1000s an hour simply by "stamping" the data onto the cd. Imagine trying to burn 1000 cds, that'd take forever.

ufo_hk 1 Posted March 7, 2002 IceFire you may want to look into CDs and CDRs and understand the technology used, then you would understand CDs are a storage device designed not to allow changes, the patchs only get applied to your harddrive and (once appplied) the only way they interact with your CD is they read them to check to ensure certain data is there which lets the program know you have a valid CD in the drive: Some useful CD (RW) resource sites: http://www.cdrom-guide.com/ http://www.cdrwcentral.com/
