    Ofp update problems

Thanks for that. I still think the upgrade path can be improved by putting together one over all patch. I tried four times from scratch to get a clean install without luck each time getting a error somewhere - and not consistantly In the end I installed CWC / Gold / Resistance then recovered a complete folder from a previous backup and over wrote the OFP folder with it's contents. Then just needed to add 1.95 / 1.95 patchs and it all works. Finially simply rerunning the preferences setup.

    Ofp update problems

Hi, I'm just returning to OFP after a few months absence, and decided to re-install OFP on my new PC. But I had no end of problems applying the various patchs. Nearly everytime I tried applying a patch I got the message file_name.PBO fails check? I've got OFP Cold war crisis / Gold / and Resistance. What should the sequence for applying the patchs? The patch read-mes give no indication of what previous patchs are needed. Could BS please produce a finial patch which includes all previous patchs so updating would require a lot less effort? Cheers UFO_HK
  3. Can anyone send me or recommend and point me in the direction of a deathmatch mission based in some bush or forest. We've just had a ball with Cadmans DM missions but want to try sneaking around in some bush / forest situations.

God this has been bugging me

Or give the men the command "move to" and select somewhere close to you, they will move and stop asking.

Keycat - same here re Falcon4 and OFP, now if only we could get the two "sims" to interact....... :-) Bot sims show what can be achieved if developers pass allow the community to support it in a controlled manner.

    Multiplayer

Just to add to what has been said about using 56K modems, it is possible to have good games without broad band connections here are a number of things all players can look at to improve or get the best MP performance in OFP here are some: 1/ Make sure your PC setup is not part of the bottleneck. Optimise it as much as possible ie defrag / best performance drivers for the hardware (specifically video cards). As much memory as possible ie 512 for win98se. 2/ Kill as many background programs as possible to ensure as much resource as possible is available for the game. 3/ Optimise your network connection - look into MTU settings etc that are appropraite for your setup. (search for optimise internet connection - and you'll find heaps to look at) 4/ In OFP use remote IP connect to someone you know is hosting rather than gamespy or ASE, GS and ASE shouldn't add overhead once game is established (but they do !!! - why.....who knows??) 5/ Join someone who is hosting on a broad band service, preferably a dedicated server. (and as BigEd point make sure hoster is using a reasonable setup themselves for the server) 6/ Ensure hoster is using missions with limited number of players. 4 (if only 56Kers) or 6. 8 max (if host on broad band 128K +). 7/ Join players who use the same ISP to reduce the number of hops. 8/ Ensure hoster is using missions with limited complexity ie few vehicles, objectives or AI, Death match (usually less game variables)vs co-op. 9/ Ping is only one measure of network performance and can even change during a session as the packets find new or different network routes. So don't dispair if high eg 150 + as it can improve often simply dropping your connection to your ISP and reconnecting will often change things. 10/ Make sure you have good performance in single player mode first ie adjust graphics options etc so you're getting good frame / performance before moving to multiplayer, thereby separating yours comms performance from PC performance.

Most fun multiplayer map for ofp!

http://www.the-gunfighters.com/ofp/multiplayer.htm Why? - cause: they small so good on dial up. complete with briefings etc. realistic. reasonable story line. and don't need unoffical add ons. BMP camp requires good team work and co-operation.

Who does not think that the net code for this game is screwed up?<span id='postcolor'> Ok - set one up and lets vote. But there's enough info out there to tell you that customers in general must be happy with the offering and support. Why else would OFP be such a good seller and the "pay for" add ons are also successful. If they weren't I find extremely strange that BI would go to the effort of developing and releasing the resistance add on later this year. Given the potential competition from recently released GR and MOHAA, you'd have to ask why are people still playing (and buying it) if it's so bad. Surely the word would have got around by now. Maybe what has got around is the word that BI are willingly to support and improve their product and it's not so bad after all. OK now where is that poll?

You might want to read the agreement and look at what you agreed to, if you installed the software and didn't return within 30 days then you've accepted how it performs.

    Roger wilco anyone?

Here are some reasons why we find RW better than in game system. Netmonitor and other packages show that the in game service uses more bandwidth than RW. Yet the quality seems similar. I would expect that if it is using more bandwidth more data is being transferred and hence quality is better, this doesn't seem to hold true. RW can be used for other games ie we jump between RW / F4 / IL2 and since we're using a RW base station we have no problems finding the other players. RW allows you to set up more channels than are supported in the game. If the game drops with RW voice comms doesn't, if the RW server drops it automatically reuses one of the remaining RW sessions as a server. In game voice is great when only using it for this game, and with players you may not regularly join up with as it then gives one consistant app you all have access to.

    Updates to the cd?

IceFire you may want to look into CDs and CDRs and understand the technology used, then you would understand CDs are a storage device designed not to allow changes, the patchs only get applied to your harddrive and (once appplied) the only way they interact with your CD is they read them to check to ensure certain data is there which lets the program know you have a valid CD in the drive: Some useful CD (RW) resource sites: http://www.cdrom-guide.com/ http://www.cdrwcentral.com/

    When will  get it right

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (JohnnyKill UK @ Mar. 06 2002,18:12)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Sorry  to say this but codemasters  u have made a game in  ofp yet i see your trying to inprove the game with patch after patch yet u go from bad to worst when will this stop cuz peeps will get fed up with the crap and go else where trust me i'm getting fed  up of playing this game with more bugs then a invested Meat Market please sort it out SOOOOON    <span id='postcolor'> What load of crap !!! and stupid line of thought. There is no way each patch goes from "bad to worst" in fact it gets better each time. There may be new or different problems introduced, but it is always such that more is fixed than broken and where new problems are introduced BI show they are willing to remove them. You don't have to apply the new "free" patchs if you really believe a previous one is better. If it is such a big deal stop patching and come back when you believe the product is acceptable to you. Finially comments like yours would do nothing to ensure BIs on going patching and hence excellent support for their product. Some respect and acknowledgement of the good work BI are doing might endear them better to ensuring you get the game you want. I think you'll find enough of us here are pissed off with this type of feedback do not miss those who do go elsewhere.

    Can someone advise me?

The respawn option/type is built into the mission by mission editor - so you need to find missions with the respawn you want. Options are: NONE - no respawn BIRD - as seagull (default) INSTANT - at place you last died BASE - at your base (respawn markers) GROUP - into a remaining soldier of your group (WORKS ONLY FOR GROUP LEADER.) SIDE - AI player on your side. See Backoff tutorials for detailed info onm respawn at : http://www.ofpeditingcenter.com/tutorial.shtml for good multiplayer missions try: http://members.lycos.co.uk/bloodmixer/ http://www.the-gunfighters.com/ofp/multiplayer.htm Otherwise yeap it's a hassle findingthe good ones amoungst the "poorer" quality missions.
