What would be cool for next ofp

Recommended Posts

Fire and better smoke, Really fast machine guns (not just effect), sticky bombs, ability to shoot from vehicles, include a over the shoulder carry & drag (to the same effect). I'd much rather drag somebody to be rescued than to have them crawl to the medic + the OPS hide is lame. Your not gonna like this but cameras and radios/ bugs for intelligence, a bonus DVD soundtrack (optional). Finally (for this post) an in-game browser for multiplayer connectivity.

As OFP is first and foremost a foot-sim. The most important step towards total realism (IMO) must be :

overheating of weapons and jamming of weapons....

Yeah they definetly would have to rework the engine alot.

But hmm rapeling from helicopters would be cool.

also the ability to build real fox hole fighting positions ect.

So you can have intersecting fields of fire stuff like that.

Because lets face it. Those fortress they have are about as useful as tits on a bull. And I know of know military that uses those type of bunker set up. Sorry that is just something that is not realistic to the real military.

Also hasty position that you could put into the map. It usually is a hole the length and with of your body.  that sits about the depth of your body sorounded by fallen tree logs and foliage for cover and concealment.

Oh yeah and as for an enemy that trys to flank you. How about real tactics. Two man two movement cover and shoot. Stuff like that.

Mortars would be nice. Not 120 but atleast 60 and 81 mortars

* Animals, specifically guard dogs, to make sneaking into a base harder for black-ops and spetznatz

* Sidearms, like so many others have said, and knives so you can sneak up on enemy sentries and bleed 'em, real quiet like

* Able to fire weapon while parachuting (and able to be shot while parachuting)

* .50 sniper rifles

* M47 Dragon (lose the Carl Gustav)

* Bigger urban areas for some serious urban combat

* More civilian models, old people, kids, women etc.

* Female grunts, for all the budding "G.I. Janes" out there to play

* More civilian/para-military weapons for the resistance (lever-action rifles, bolt-action rifles, pump-action shotguns, semi-auto rimfires etc.)

* WP (incendiary) rounds/grenades

* Artillery/air strikes that can be radioed in (yes, I know there are scripts to do this, and the LGB's, but I want more! )

* Custom voice option (even if you have to spend 2 hours recording all of your phrases)

* More "classes" of soldeiers: mechanic (able to repair vehicles like a medic can heal people), demolitions, infiltrator/spy...etc.

Guard dogs? They need to improve a whole hell of alot of stuff before they start worrying about dogs... anyways here is my wish list:

-What Morgan said... foxholes at the most or hasty positions at the least

-I agree, urban areas, with lots of houses to run around in, but they need to improve movement in buildings, its just to dang unreliable

-rivers and stuff

-Hueys, Loaches (the older version of the Little Bird), CH53, a bunch of variants of all different choppers. and a super cobra also smile.gif

-Accurate tank round effects. Sabots dont explode, and HEAT rounds are just that: Hi-Explosive Anti-tank (that means anti tank). the HEAT round in the game right now is an HE round.

-replace that damn 50 cal in the uh60s. they just dont do that in the US military. if you want to be a little more accurate, put back the cannon you had in the sp demo. not quite perfect, but better than you have now

-A dynamic campaign would kick so much ass. I dont know how you would do it wth the OFP engine though

-up the viewdistance by default, so I dont have to change the values in the editor. this makes the game way more realistic

-fast roping from choppers would be great

-realistic vehicle damage would be good, i.e. a chopper coming in for an emergency landing, crushes its skids/gear, but doesnt do that explosion bs.

-Landwarrior. nuff said. but only if the next OFP is not like a 1985 thing

-smarter AI

-BETTER NETCODE smile.gif

-lots more weapons. you know, the sort of things you can find at your friendly neighborhood gunstore. surplus military weapons, hunting rifles (REAL hunting rifles, not the Kozlice).

-better vehicle physics. I laugh my ass off everytime I see a Bradley bouncing when hit with a m16, or a multi ton tank acting like a dune buggie

-more variety in uniforms

-more vehicles. check out Commanche Hokum and look at its ongoing virtual war to see a wish list for vehicles to add. anything from chapparals to badgers to whatever. you know what Im talkin about

Basically follow the guideline: More is better. because, aside from the usual problems (that youve heard of a million times) this is a great game. dont dumb it down, dont make it more "accessible", because its fine like it is. I think you should do everything you can to turn it into a real virtual world, where you can do almost anything

Indirect fire. IMHO that's the only thing the game really needs - both on-field artillery and mortars (especially mortars though, from 60mm to 120mm). Fire observers and some kind of fire shifting method would be nice.

And 'real' air support, so no A10 with a 30mm cannon that's shooting at a series of trenches but a B52 that destroys the whole area.

Lol....yep, sure, let's let those Base Rapers who currently like to bomb the hell out of your vehicles before you get a chance to use them graduate to Island Raping status.....no thank you

how about better incorporating "Suppressive Fire" into the AI scheme. I'd also like to be able to order lifting or shifting of fire.

artilary fire, like settin a spot on the map or the level itself and waitin for the fireworks, includien:

-this damn nuclear missile thing(years to load but wtf)

-fire from those big ol ships

-airstrikes from a-10s and ceesnas(right is it?)

-a chopper holdin a jeep or somethin like that(in a cable, of course)

-parachutin strikes

-the ION BEACON wow.gif

=controlin the parachute view and shotin from up there would be great 2

=chopers and boats ( and pikups) for the civilian and resistance

=real vehicle damage sistem

=kinda editin the islands(settin how much woods, roads, houses and even units 20

Island Raping is a felony in the State of Texas and is punishable by 20 to 80 years in Federal Prison, without parole.

one thing that bugs me that is missing in ofp is the ability to tell the AI to target a certain spot where there isn't an object. I occasionally need this.

Ok in my oppinon we need the following things:

1.) Rivers which can be entered with PBRs from the ocean.

2.) Bigger Islands with much bigger woods.

3.) Middle eastern style buildings for desert island.

4.) A portable radio with which you can call in support of all

kinds via a not so easy coordinates system.

5.) K-Pod helmets

6.) Bigger rucksacks

7.) BETTER WEAPON SOUNDS.

8.) AI squadmembers are dying to fast

LOL, try to give them better orders! biggrin.gif j/k

I'd like to see some small additions to the wound/damage system.

- If you are seriously wounded, you must be treated or bleed to death within a varying timeframe.

- When a soldier is hit, but doesn't die, he should still fall to the ground from the impact (not talking FLYING away, just trip and fall) and then get up. It feels odd that they just keep running after getting plugged.

I also think tanks should be more likely to have their tracks disabled instead of the cannon. It's more likely that this will happen, IRL.

Fire would also be nice. smile.gif

If we are talking about OFP2 here afterall I would probably most like to see a realistic damage system both for vehicles and foot soldiers. Like in WWIIOnline (no matter how crap that game is at the moment) using bounding boxes or something like that where, say, a guy gets shot in the leg, the leg perhaps has a certain amount of points ( a simple counter) and depending on the damage done and the amount of points left, the damage can be compared to a 'table' of effects to see what the effect of the damage is, ie. the soldier can't walk or more severely he will bleed to death. Basically realistic damage is what I am talking about

OFP already has this, to a degree (not the bleeding to death though). I've had my legs shot out from under me plenty of times, and had to crawl around.

LOL @ GFX

Have you played OFP at all, or just fiddling with the editor? See, that´s how it goes then! J/K biggrin.gif

I have lost my legs numerous times, it was really frightening when the enemy was hunting me down and I was trying to hide! Had to slowly crawl towards a bush when they closed in on me.. Stephen King - go home!! LMAO

I have also experienced bleeding to death several times. That is the only explanation I died when no enemy was in sight and the camera never zoomed in at enemies either.

For OFP 2 I want more realism of course, and way better net code, better and more realistic movement including the inside of buildings.

* More realistic damage to buildings

* Voice commands - you speak and OFP understands you

* Better flight model

* Not necessarily more vehicles, but more accurate data

* Even better landscape

As Mae West once said: "Too much of something good can be wonderful" Say no more! biggrin.gif

OFP has been my ultimate PC war simulation experience so far, I hope they will not lower the standard in OFP 2 to make it more "available to new players", but it would be great if they include a basic training camp school or something. Just please, please don´t remove the hardcore part!

No, you simple fools, I was using that as an example....for example we have a soldier who gets hit in the chest with a 5.56mm round, well then we have some stats about what a 5.56mm round will do, in terms of trauma vs. penetration, then we have the amount of damage done and then it will look at a 'table' of damage effects for that area of the body, 1: being the soldier is still able to carry on but can only walk, to perhaps, 6:the soldier just falls down dead.

pffffff

Simple fools?  biggrin.gif Nice....

Perhaps you should have explained what you meant a little better. What you said sure sounded like you didn't know about specific body area damage. I think the damage system in OFP is pretty realistic anyway. Been killed by a single shot to the chest or head more times than I could count. Also been left crawling, and been unable to aim properly due to damage. wink.gif

How about soldiers talking? Sort of like in theif and theif 2 where there are guards standing around the corner and you hear them carrying a conversation. would at alot of atmosphere.

REPLYIN TO THE WHOLE PAGE

the damage system is fakey

take a shot in the arm(a heavy gun in hands, jus remindin)

take a shot in the lag...leg(no screams or "apuntation" need)

take a shot in the head(ouch, but anyway, the whole face gets dirty, could happen some time later)

take a shot in the chest(tell me how it is)

those houses really look lame

and get better the indoors moviment

the Thief 2 talk is nice

but in war how useful can be gossip?

In the M1A1 the abillity to lock down the turret would be nice.In real life there is a turret lock down lever to, well lock the turret.Im kinda tired of the dumb ai swinging the darn turret and hittin other tanks,(which could damage a tank in real life) when just drivin around in formation.Plus online(if you have an online tank squad)it would be cool to, you know how the gunner wants to see whats going on instead of lookin at the gun site in the 1st person view well he can lock the turret and just move the camera around.I have also tried the alt-then move the mouse, but the turret still turns. confused.gif That stinks.

1. REAL ballistics (i.e. no laser M-16's or AK-47's)

2. Correct ROF's for each gun

3. Bigger islands

4. More open-ended missions

5. Bigger, enterable buildings

6. HALO jumps (without the need for scripting)

7. HAHO jumps (controllable parachutes)

8. Bigger default loadouts for troops (more than 4 M-16 mags)

9. Fence clippers

10. Some capabilities of vehicles reduced if manned by others (i.e infantry using tanks)

11. Complete difficulty control (Invulnerability, Unlimited Ammo, etc) for single player

12. Adjustable sights where applicable (M-16, etc.)

13. Easier texturing! (really, 40 texture files for a jeep is a bit

excessive)
