Texture problem - 1.14-1.15

Recommended Posts

The 1.14 graphics problem are still in 1.15. I pinpointed it because in 1.14 the screen could go white to many people including me, and we had to reboot to get it back good again. Now the screen goes white very seldom. I think 2-3 times since i started play 1.15. But instead it flicker the ground textures between low and high and this results in lag/stuttering. If i go for very high textures - the problem disappears. it is only present in all the other texture settings. But unfortunatelly i cant play with very high textures when it gets too much happening.

When this low texture thing happens and i FLUSH the VRAM - the text at the bottom saying "RECIEVING..." gets the same "blurry" treatment as it did in 1.14. The text flickers between "blurry" and sharp, and it takes a long time to flush. Only rememdy is to reboot computer.

It makes it unplayable for people like me that cant play at very high textures. And i would really like if BIS can look into what this is, and release a fix patch for it cause i dont inted to ever lay this program away. Not for a long long time anyway. This wasnt present under 1.14. Never had this problem then. And now my PC is better - but ArmA performes worse due to this bug. I had this problem even on my older computer in 1.15. And it was fine before 1.14.

My specs atm:

AMD 64 X2 6000+ (3.1GHZ no OC yet)

NVIDIA 8800GTS 320MB/320Bit. OC @ 600/900/SC1400

Corsair 2GB DDR2 800MHZ (4GB normally but due to XP32...)

MoBo, HD, DVD etc all meet (above) ArmA recommended specs.

OS: Win XP 32bit Pro SP3

EDIT: When i experiment a bit with Anisotropic Filtering setting in ArmA graphic options i can kinda reproduce how it looks between the texture changes. Change between very high to low or disable and look a bit ahead. not far but some meters and thats exactlly how it looks when it changes/flickers. Is it a AF problem maybe? going to try make a lot of different settings and see if the problem can be avoided. /Did not help.

EDIT2: just a small edit again. As stated in the title this problem wasnt excisting under 1.14. All versions from 1.04 (my CD) never had this problem. Now its keeping me from playing and making missions. I hope there is a fix coming? Or some advice to what can be done to get rid of it. Annoying not to be able to play the game you like the most. sad_o.gif

Thank you & regards

Alex

Tested to change the HDR=8 to 16 in the ArmA.CFG and it seems to work so far. Thats good news as it makes me able to play. The sun wont blind me anymore, but i'll live.

Ah, I've experienced this too and set my textures to High, but I'll try that HDR trick.  Thanks.

UPDATE

--------

Didn't work.  It's the LOD (level of detail) switching that's really noticeable (trees flicker).  I see there is another 'Texture Problem' thread that is the same issue.

Going to try earlier drivers and see what that does.  Also going to buy a 4GB flash/thumb drive and use it as a Vista Ready Boost performance addition and see if that helps.

UPDATE

--------

FIXED! Texture Detail = Default (this might be the golden egg)

Bought a 4gb Flash Drive (Fat32 formatted) and used it as ReadyBoost.

I tried setting HDR from 8 to 16 in ArmA.CFG, but no change on the flickering. Just experienced this flicker thingy and restarting ArmA didn't help. What's worse then the texture flickering is NVG going on and off madly. The receiving message will also show this flickering behaviour.

I have had many many many ArmA sessions since last reboot. Nor did flushing do any good. Maybe it is a dirty memory thing? Should probably just restart then...

The going white issue I never experienced with my old gfx card, but it started since I got 9800GTX. Machine will hang severely for a few seconds, then textures will mess up wildly, then just go all white on me. Not often it happens but very frustrating when it does. Restarting ArmA here *will* help though.

There are lots of problems with nvidia's 8800+ cards in ArmA so it's probably just nvidia.

it happens on ATI too.  It seems the fix for my nvda friends has been to use 178.xx ,basically a roll back from 182.xx ( did i get the numbers rt? 17x to 18x). There is a addon that will put the HDR setting in your ARMA vid options advanced;"PROPER_UI_HDR_Button_in_Video_Options_2009_01_15"

Then you can reset in game, which can fix the issues, also in my case with Crossfire ATI cards, i change my AA setting in game, works everytime. Alot of flicker issues seem to happen at certain times of the day aka; low sun, and light filtering through the trees. And one last note, Vsync on it happens allot less and the fixes work better with it o.n
