MarcusJClifford 1 Posted March 4, 2002 Just installed 1.46 and see that the joystick throttle has been reversed (corrected) for airplanes, but is still "wrong" for helicopters. BIS, was this an oversight and will it be fixed in future releases, or is it by design? What do other players think about reversing the throttle for Helicopters? Anaconda 0 Posted March 4, 2002 It's not wrong for helicopters. That's the way it is in real life also. Helicopters do have an other kind of throttle. For jets, forward means more power, for helicopters, backward is more power.
MDRZulu 0 Posted March 5, 2002 A helicopter throttle (collective) doesnt look like one jet. It looks more like a hand emergency brake in your car and to increase collective you have to pull up on it like you would to apply the e-brake. So either reverse or not its not really like a helicopter throttle. Just fly them alot and you will get used to it, maybe a little too used to it. When I got Fs2002 I had to reverse the throttle because I was so used to flashpoint, but no big deal. I think they make some joysticks that have collective attatchements. Wobble 1 Posted March 5, 2002 I still think there should be a "reverse axis" option.. no matter what the collective of the chopper and a throttle is NOT similar.. be it reversed or not.. and when 99% of other games are foreward=more back=less.. having one odball game where its reversed its a royal PITA.. Yes an option would be nice but this is what most helo sims have always done and I'd be more confused the way you describe it. And by the way BIS, nice improvements to the control handling. Much more fun to fly now.
Gandalf21VB 0 Posted March 5, 2002 I could'nt agree more, that a collective does'nt work like a jet/prop throttle, but my throttle is situated on my desk (like most others i think) not on some kind of piedestal to my left. If it was, the motion would be correct. I'we played lots of flight/Helisims for years and i do, like many others, feel awkward to gain power by pushing the throttle backwards.  It causes a lot of crashes when my instinctive reaction pattern refuse to believe that back equals more power  What a joy it is  to fly those planes now  What a joy it could be flying the Heli's with "reversed" thrust
