How many players?

Recommended Posts

I did a search but found nothing.

I heard in one of the interviews that in arma1 they had to use a lot of units to give the impression of a real fire fight because the AI was not so advanced.

Now that they have improved the AI does that mean that we have to have fewer plays on screen at a time, eg how many players/ai can exist in the game world at once?

So what Im extracting from this post is: A: Will the AI be harder for the player, and B: will the AI demand more CPU-resources so that the amount of AI we can play with is effectively lowered?

answers (?) are

A there will be few to no change at all concerning GPU calculation for soldiers, but we will have less units (more real little fights : 5v5 will last longer) and longer fights

B the new AI will have some impact on CPU calculation because of the new "micro-AI". This shouldn't be a big problem if you have a dual core, because one core will be dedicated (as far as I got it) to micro-AI ; the other core to the rest of the game.

I hope we answered right to your question(s) wink_o.gif

so does anyone know exactly how many players there will be in multiplayer?

ie 32vs 32?

and how many enemy/friendly characters can we expect to fight in the campaign at a time, will it be 32 vs 32 , or 100 vs 100 etc?

BIS has said a few times something to the extent of "nothing is being removed".. assuming this is true, the 65 unit group limit will persist, the 10+ man squads and so on.

I think they'll keep to their usual formula: our hardcoded limits will sink any past computer as well as any computer made several years into the future.
