How do you make choppers already airborne drop dow

Recommended Posts

[ArmA]

Hello

I’m able to set way points up to do the most common things, like getting men to move, or get in vehicles, but I have never been able to get an chopper to fly in from somewhere, land, and than wait at that location for someone to get in it. Once the person or group of infantry gets into the aircraft, I would like to have the chopper transport the men and drop them off somewhere as soon as the man/group is in the aircraft.

I can do most of this only if the aircraft in an empty aircraft placed on the ground, but not when the aircraft is already in the sky

Thank you

Well if you are asking what I think your asking, then here it goes. If you want a chopper already in the air and you want it to go to a certain spot where you want the troops to be picked up, make a WP for the helo to go to the spot as a Transport load, and have the squad being picked up on a get in qaypoint to the chopper, then give the chopper another WP to whereever as a Transport unload, then to another WP from the battlefield.

hello icfhoop

Yes, that is exactly what I'm trying to do! But there is no Transport load way point option as you mentioned. there is however a Load, and an Transport Unload.

I've tried sending the airborne chopper to both a load, as well as an Transport Unload, but when the chopper gets to the load way point, it just goes on to the next way point, and leaves me there. I've even tried join way points. Doses the infantry need some kind of way point to be touching the load way point?

Anyway, this is how I had the aircraft way points set up:

Chopper (already in the sky)---> Load-WP-------> then to an unload WP

Infantry, had no way points, as it was just me standing there waiting.

I'm assuming that the infantry/ myself could arrive at the load WP anytime, and just get in the copper, and the chopper will than fly to the next way point?

Ok make shure the infantry squad has a getin waypoint on the chopper aswell, and also the load waypoint is correct my bad. Try that.

Hi icfhoop

I don't' understand what your saying? You can't specify two way points coming off the same group, or unit afaikt.

what do you mean by, "make sure the infantry squad has a get in way point on the chopper "? The chopper in half way across the island. So are you saying to run a way point from the infantry group, across the map to the airborne aircraft which is moving towards the infantry? that would seem to make the infantry start walking in the direction of the aircraft which is already coming towards them.

Incase you haven't gotten it yet.

place the helicopter and the squad

Helicopter Waypoints: Load --> Unload

Squad Waypoints: Get In --> Move (where they move to when they get out)

Sync together the Get In and Load waypoints and your squad will wait for the helicopter to get there and then the helicopter will land and your men will get in.

EDIT: I just tested this again. I would advise putting the Load and Unload waypoints on an H or H (invisible) because if you don't the helicopter will hover a meter off the ground and won't land. The guys will still be able to get in and out but the problem is that on uneven terrain the get out waypoint might injure (or kill) the guys because they will be falling too far.

Also, keep in mind, if you are planning on using this for a multiplayer mission this simple waypoint setup can behave, well, erratically!
