ricnunes 0 Posted October 4, 2008 Recently I updated my display drivers for my ATI 4850 video card to the latest Catalyst 8.9 drivers and now I'm having some problems which are: - For example if I set the view distance to the maximum (10km) but also if I set the view distance to distances higher than 3Km, first I start to have in-game graphics distortions and than when I exit the game, my system simply reboots! Â - This problem was "solved" Â when I reinstalled the previous Catalyst 8.8 driver version. So I'm asking here if someone is having the same problem and if there someone have a solution for this same problem? Â (besides reinstalling older driver versions, of course) BTW, my system specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 MSI P43 Neo Motherboard 2GB RAM ATI HD 4850 with 512MB

ricnunes 0 Posted October 5, 2008 Ah I see, so the 8.10 version is still a beta driver, right? Anyway, thanks for the tip.
[frl]myke 14 Posted October 5, 2008 I also had problems with my HD4870 and 8.9. Funniest thing was, with 8.9, GPU-Z showed a GPU clock frequency of 819245MHz! Nice overclocking, isn't it? Don't know if it's a readout problem or if it really tried to reach this clock speed. At least i couldn't play longer than 20mins before the system completely freezes up. I've installed 8.8 then and now it work fine.
SnR 1 Posted October 5, 2008 You know this gets up my goat, i was seriously think about purchasing a Nividia card so i can finally see custom faces and hands in detail. In doing this i am willing to for go the price and power of the 4870 1gb, what a way to decide on a purchase :roll eyes: Also to keep seeing the same Games fixed in ATI's Driver change logs kills me
ricnunes 0 Posted October 5, 2008 SnRaCe, I know these issues are very frustrating but "porked" drivers definitly aren't an exclusive of ATi. Nvidia also releases from time to time "porked" drivers which cause all kinds of crashes and graphics distortions and from my experience this even happens more often than with ATi! Actually this is one of the two main reasons why I use and prefer more the ATi video cards than Nvidia ones (and being price/quality the other one).
Dwarden 1125 Posted October 5, 2008 this is weird i have HD4670, HD4850, HD4870, HD3450, HD3650, HD3870 here and they seems to works fine with 8.10 RC2 (VD tested on 3-10km) actually only problem i have is with HD3870 and shadows (high/very high) but i might have damaged unit ... and ofcourse overall performance of ArmA shadows at any HD3xxx/HD4xxx

volkov956 0 Posted October 6, 2008 There is a Bios Upgrade btw for some 4870's from ATI Official It fixed my slow downs in CAT 8.8 and so far no graphic anomilies. Changelog of bios was that it changed Voltage changes that would happen in certain 3d Applications where the voltage would drop to a 2d Voltage setting which then would switch back to the 3d voltage while in the 3d application. Does not work in Saphire branded 4870 it will brick them sometimes
