Akira 0 Posted March 5, 2002 I'm not anywhere near tech support....I just have a question.... Is this problem centralized to a region or is this error popping up on various versions in various countries? I just got Gold upgrade w/Red Hammer and now am wondering if I should even try to install it (though I probably will).
wyuenho 0 Posted March 5, 2002 I bought my copy from the States. I think the problem may or may not be of the QC. I remember when Shogun: Total War first got out, I have the exact problem just like I have on OFP. If I remember correctly, it was some video card, directx compatibility problem and they finally fixed it in a patch, but it was long long after the game was released. PitViper 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Didnt avon say it was something about the ASPI layer for CDROM's in windows?
samoll 0 Posted March 5, 2002 I think the ASPI issue only applies to CD/RW drives. Someone posted earlier about installing the plain old original OFP instead of gold. Do you know if the original version you exchanged in the store was recently burned or had it been sitting on the shelf for a while? I tried installing just OFP without the gold upgrade using the CDs in the gold edition box and I still got the error.
ALDEGA 0 Posted March 5, 2002 It may be a cdrom drive HW problem. Safedisc is basicly about adding a digital signature to the disc, which is read during the authentication process. On macrovision.com (the creator's site) they state that when you copy the disc, the signature 'cannot' be copied. Thus when you try to run the software from the copied disc, it cannot find the signature and thus will not work. This leads me to believe that the digital signature is kept in a hard-to-read area of the cdrom disc. Which may cause problems with certain cdrom drives. wyuenho 0 Posted March 5, 2002 codemaster still needs to address this issue because paying customers should have to go for all that trouble just to get the game to run properly. BTW, I am using a DVD-rom/CDR/CDRW combo drive, does that ASPI problem applies to me?
Twillbugger 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Aye, but here's the rub. OFP standalone game 55CAD. Gold upgrade standalone, 25CAD. Thats 80 dollars to buy it seperately. Gold edition, 59CAD. All plus taxes. All should post their greivances to Codemasters themselves. Hell, they should be paying ME to wait for a useable product. Anyway, don't give up on the game. I HEAR it's pretty good. Pelvidar 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Well, I'm having the same problem as the rest of you. Â I've even installed the newest ASPI layers.. I got the crack from <link removed by Placebo>, and sure enough it runs fine now. Â Of course I can't upgrade, so this is really only a temporary fix. Thank God for illegal coders, cause these "pirate protection" things: 1) Don't work 2) Mess things up for legitimate users
Placebo 29 Posted March 5, 2002 Do not post links to cracks or sites that host them, it is grounds for having your account on this forum deleted.
lliang 0 Posted March 6, 2002 Same problem here. CPU = AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz MB = Asus A7V266 Memory = Kingston DDR 256MB + Kingston DDR 512MB Video = ATI Radeon 64DDR VIVO OS = WinXP I guess till Codemaster fix the problem, the game will be sitting on the shelf collecting dust. And I thought MS developers are bad...
InRange 1 Posted March 6, 2002 I already had the original OFP but Red Hammer wouldn't install. So I simply copied and pasted the entire CD contents in the OFP map and it worked.
