Psycho1 0 Posted March 2, 2002 About 20 minutes into my first game played on V1.45, it tells me I have a modified config file. I have never even opened up the config file ever, and the ONLY mod I have downloaded is for the LST......but it's in My Documents folder. I have never actually placed it in my OFP folder...so it can't be that either. Has anyone else been accused of this with version 1.45? Once it gives that message, I can't join the next game. It really pisses me off because I have no idea what the hell is causing it. Have any other innocent people been accused of this with the upgrade to V1.45? Since I don't know what the hell is causing the game to think I have modified config file, the only option is to reinstall I suppose. Really pisses me off. MitchSchaft 0 Posted March 2, 2002 Yeah, I had 3 guys on my server last night with the same message. But, they didn't have modded config bins either.
maruk 80 Posted March 2, 2002 I believe the message is caused by some unofficial addons that actually do modify the config file.
Icabola 0 Posted March 2, 2002 Hi, Is there a chance for me to edit the config.bin , let say i'd like to edit M16 configuration, from flashsize:0.02 to 0.0000001 or edit the dispersion to 0.00000000000000001.(make it very accurate) just for single player (my own consumption). Never tried this with v1.45, but is there a chance? Regards, Icabola

The thing is that I do not have any unofficial addons, so I don't know what caused it. I have the unofficial LST add-on/mod, but it can't affect the config file from the my documents folder. I have never put it in my OFP folder. I uninstalled OFP and reinstalled, and I still got the message. It will only go away if you do a complete uninstall of the game, wipe out the entire codemasters folder, than reinstall. Now I do not have that message, and I still don't know why it said I had a modified config.

That is quite strange. Normally you should see this message right after you connected to the server. Do you remmember someting else you this could be important? Psycho1 0 Posted March 2, 2002 I never saw the message when I first connected to the server. Â Showed up for the first time 20 minutes into the game, unless I missed the message before. Â I'm pretty sure I would have saw it though. It always gave the same message....."Psycho1 uses a modified config file". Â It never gave a specific location, it popped up several times too. Â I can't recall doing anything out of the ordinary before the message popped up. Â Just running around shooting people:) Â I saw other people get the modified config file message too, sometimes it gave specific locations, most of the time it didn't. Â It must not be accurately judging what is modified and what is not, but why are most people not getting it if that's the case? I can't even think of a cause for it. morbid 0 Posted March 2, 2002 I had this message too so I uninstalled, deleted the ofp folder and reinstalled ofp, then redhammer then patched from 1.30 to 1.45 and got the message again when i tried to play online. - I just found out that my 1.45 upgrade file may well be corrupted which explains why I still get the modified config message after a clean install. M-N-0N 0 Posted March 2, 2002 one thing i noticed a while ago when i did updates to 1.42 after a reinstall i had moved the "user" folder and the missions and that folder .. and when i went 2 install it was locateing them folders before the ones in the actual folder location of OFP...and i would get these weird errors cozz of it when i tried 2 update to 1.42 so what i did was .. i renamed the folders .. and when i went to install the patch ... it worked with no errors through the install so my point is... if you have moved a copy of the folder ... or any files from OFP .. is to rename the files ... this thing that looks through you config must be searching through the wrong one .... so name any configs that are from OFP that you have backed up on ya system 2 something diff.... i could be wrong ... but thats all i can think of ... cozz the patch prob was cozz of the exe locateing sertain folder names ... mybe this seaches filenames.... Sparksfly 0 Posted March 2, 2002 Im getting a little pissed at having to do a complete overhall of my opflash folder everytime a goddam patch comes out. Cant they just bring one full patch instead? Especially when their not backwards compatible and give errors for unauthorised missions and models and configs. My cd is a 1.0 europe one and now my collection of patches to upgrade me to 1.45 is four. 1.0 - 1.1, 1.1 -1.2 ,1.2 - 1.3, and then 1.3 - 1.45. And its a pain in the ass when patching and your cd is not being properly detected by he upgrade and you have to play a game of Eject,Insert,Double-Click Patch, and hope it hooks.... Psycho1 0 Posted March 3, 2002 I just got it again:( Â I'd really like to know why it keeps thinking I have a modified config file:(:(:(:( Â I did a COMPLETE uninstall of the game, then reinstalled, and it let me play about 5 games this morning with no problem. Â But I go play a game tonight and get that message after I finished my first game. Â I hate having that message pop up, making people think I'm cheating:( Â I DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT CAUSES IT.......I can't get into the next game once that message pops up too, so this is pissing me off. It is not accurately checking the config file, how could I have modified my config file....all I have done today is download 5 MP maps FREE of addons or mods....100% sure of it too. Â I also pasted back all of my maps I had in my users folder, FREE of addons or mods too. Â I did not paste my whole users folder back in, just my maps.....which do not have addons or mods. Please fix this problem BIS, others having this same problem too...just look at the replies.
Psycho1 0 Posted March 3, 2002 Just so you know, it was the same exact message..."Psycho1 uses a modified config file." Didn't give me a specific location. I am totally clueless about why I get that message, even more now since I just did a complete uninstall and still get it. Could it be where I downloaded the 1.45 patch? I got mine from Codemasters FTP site......I'm really grasping at straws here.....please fix this problem.
masa 0 Posted March 3, 2002 Its because of some unoffical addon. I got the Satchels soundpack and it worked well untill i tried to install patch 1.42, and it said that my config file is wrong, please install ofp again or something like that. So I deleted the soundpack installed the patch and installed the soundpack again, and it worked.
Psycho1 0 Posted March 3, 2002 I don't have any unofficial addons. 100% certain of that too......
Nagual 0 Posted March 3, 2002 Tonight 3 people connected to my server at different times while I was hosting a lan game. After varying amounts of time the "playerXXX uses modified config file" message popped up with a ding. The message continued to pop up repeatedly, usually around 5 to 10 mins apart. I have no idea what was causing the message to repeat or appear a few minutes after the player connects..... Edit: The players were unknown to me, they joined while lan was in game, only one joined a game later but never readied up or responeded to anything, so i had no way of checking about addons. morbid 0 Posted March 3, 2002 I hope server admins have noticed this thread, it would be unfortunate for them to ban people who do not cheat but have somehow ended up with a damage config.bin file.

Psycho1 0 Posted March 4, 2002 I'm still getting this modified config message.......I was in a server today with a person fairly new to OFP, and he kept getting that message too. Right after he'd get the message he would get kicked because of it, and he had no clue why. Not what I call a good first experience of OFP when the game keeps booting you because of a faulty reading of the config. Will this be addressed in 1.46? I really hope so, because it needs to be fixed ASAP.
