Griffon2-6 0 Posted June 1, 2008 I posted in the 1.14 troubleshooting thread yesterday about this, but nobody who can help seemed to have been checking it, so I decided to make a new thread. Since updating to 1.14, I have no sound from the game at all. This includes menu, ingame effects, voices, nothing, it's like my game is muted. My sound card is working properly, I'm sure of that, as other games work just fine. I initially thought that it was the FDF Sounds addon, but after isolating the FDF files, I still had the same problem. I've tried reapplying the patch too. Thanks for any help. Yoma 0 Posted June 1, 2008 -are you running arma WITH NO MODS AT ALL? (did you ever put mods in arma/addons folder (NEVER EVER DO THIS)) If so clean them out. -did you get any errors in patching the game. -What soundcard do you have? -What version of windows are you using. -Have you checked the soundvolumes/soundmutation in your settings (in arma and in windows)

I'll try to transfer the million mods I have in there to a separate mod folder. I got no errors patching the game. My soundcard is an onboard soundcard using SoundMax 5.0 drivers I am using Windows XP Pro And I have fiddled with the settings ever since I had this problem and nothing worked. Thanks for helping. suma 8 Posted June 1, 2008 I suggest reinstalling OpenAL runtime (steps described in http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Missing_OpenAL32.DLL) - if lucky, this might help. Edit: Fixed URL
Griffon2-6 0 Posted June 1, 2008 Oh, right... I don't recall the installer ever installing that new OpenAL update that was mentioned in the update notes. However, that page you linked is blank, and I don't know how to install OpenAL.
Griffon2-6 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Still no luck after installing OpenAL from the install file obtained from the OpenAL site.
cyborgmatt 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Go into the audio settings and try enabling hardware acceleration.
Griffon2-6 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Hardware acceleration in the game audio settings is already enabled for me, I can't even turn it off. Should I try in my driver settings?
Griffon2-6 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Ok... never mind, fixed it. I turned on hardware acceleration in my system settings, and the sound started working. I had it off so that I could use VoIP in Battlefield 2. Great, now I have to switch between on and off if I want to play ArmA and BF2 respectively. Thanks for the help though! the_shadow 0 Posted June 7, 2008 i have another issue... in heavy battles with lots of sounds it seams as the player goes "deaf" meaning, there are no sounds exept for one or another bullet crack or similar... and if i quit and go to the menu or editor the sound slowly fades back.. and yes, im running a bunch of mods including a sound mod but that doesnt make any difference from normal ArmA. im having a Soundblaster live Xfi extreme gamer soundcard on a 5.1 speaker setup and running the game with hardware acceleration and EAX turned on (doesnt make any difference to change that though) i have had the problems on and of with the previous patches as well but now i get it every time i start the game... i have tried to change the soundcard drivers aswell. any suggestions? dayglow 2 Posted June 10, 2008 I'm having the sound dropping as well. After a few minutes everything goes very quiet except for my own gunfire. Running Chammy's Sound Mod, but before 1.14 never had an issue.
bhaz 0 Posted June 10, 2008 in heavy battles with lots of sounds it seams as the player goes "deaf" meaning, there are no sounds exept for one or another bullet crack or similar... I always assumed this was intended? Usually happens for me after a nearby explosion (grenade etc). I'm under the impression it simulates the temporary deafness / ear ringing after hearing such a noise, of course I may be wrong though.
dayglow 2 Posted June 10, 2008 nope, it isn't temperary or timed with a near miss. The sound just suddenly cuts out for all events in the mission. I have the exact same setup before and after 1.14 and it appeared after the patch.

Daniel 0 Posted June 10, 2008 Yeah, the sound goes some way towards filling in missing senses too, such as not feeling your feet pound the floor. So other sounds besides gunfire shouldn't drown out so easily.
dayglow 2 Posted June 10, 2008 I seem to have fixed it on my system. I rolled back my Creative drivers to version 6.0.1.1304 and sound seems to stay.
