There are quite a few threads out there regarding beta patches and such.  I just want to make sure I am running the correct version to play the game with folks.  My Arma reads at 1.08.5163

I can get on and play with folks, but I just wanted to know is this the American version I should be running or should I DL a patch?  Sounds like a noob question - I've just been out of touch a while and would like to play again.  Thanks for understanding.

1.08 is the latest non-beta version, so you should be fine.

There was a 1.08 hotfix that fixed some issues with the 1.08 version though. Do you have the hotfix installed? Link.

1.08 is the latest official patch that has been released. There is the updated 1.12 patch that is also released, however this is a beta patch and is not the final product.

Thanks much. I thought I was ok. Some gamers were telling me to update to 1.09 and so on, but they didn't look to be official yet and still betas so I will hold off. I am installing the hotfix though.

I would say either play the original, only real pure breed Arma 1.0 or get the newest patch, 1.12.

There is no reason to stay somewhere in between.

Get patched at least to the final 1.8, then if you still suffer from perormance, bugs etc, get 1.12.

Never, never play the original.

I had to play 1.00 long enough over here in germany, before the first patch was even in sight.

1.12 might be a Beta but it works very good, so there is no reason to not use it.

Someone said something about a 1.08 to 1.12 patch. I see the 1.12 download. Is that the one that will take me from 1.08 to 1.12? I want to make sure I patch correctly because I thought I patched it once before, however, it says 1.08.5163 still. I hate to be a bother, but I want to make sure I do it right. Yep, if you are on 1.08 then download 1.12b.

Beta patches work as a modfolder so you have to run it via the shortcut that gets created after patching (should be in your ArmA Directory).

1.08 = 8888 bugs

1.12 = only 888 bugs

Rationally, fewer bugs = better gaming experience.

I just dont understand why some people are so stubborn and play 1.08.

1.08 is MUCH more BETA than 1.12 yet people stay with it because 1.12 is beta. It does not make any sense in the world.

I dont understand this beta-name. Why are they beta or why are they called beta? Why simply patch (instead of beta patch) isn't used? There doesn't seem to be anything "beta" in patches, just more or less improved ArmA-features.

I could understand beta-name if ArmA would introduce whole new animations, heavily tweaked Sahrani, SLA/US replaced with some else military. In other words things which has potential to change game quite drastically (to worse direction even) and BIS would be un-sure what player have to say about it.

Well there are new things like anti-cheat features added, so maybe it's that which "entitles" these newest patches to have "beta"-status in them?

Well, I guess they put out a beta rather than a regular patch because they are afraid of stability issues, I guess primarily because of the new additions (VON and Battleeye and such).

But the beta's have done rather much damage as it has split the community rather badly. This is not so cool.

The stability issues have been fewer with every patch I think, so the need hasn't really been there, so maybe BIS should consider doing it a little differently in the future. eg maybe not release new features with new patches until they're ready.

yeah, but 1.12 is more stable than 1.08. If 1.12 is beta, 1.08 is alpha.

Yet some purists still play 1.08 as the "official" version. Again, to follow this logic they should "enjoy" the pure 1.0.
