KeyCat 131 Posted April 28, 2008 Figures in my previous posts was only an rough average but here are some more specific figures from my FPS testmissions and as you can see it's to much penalty to run with Vsync ON for me. <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> GeForce 7950 GT 512 MB and ForceWare 94.24 WHQL Vertical Sync OFF Mission       Norm    Zoom1    Zoom2  ------------------------------------------------ FPS_Test_1     41      42       51 FPS_Test_2     47      45       39 Vertical Sync ON Mission       Norm    Zoom1    Zoom2  ------------------------------------------------ FPS_Test_1     29      29       43 FPS_Test_2     43      43       29 No real problems running ArmA without Vsync (except for my TIR going nuts sometimes) I just wanted to state that some ppl experience a framerate hit with Vsync ON and the article above confirms that and the Tripple Buffering issue with most DX games. /KC
Dwarden 1125 Posted April 28, 2008 what's Your resolution refresh rate ? looking on the chart then it would be like 85/86 Hz because 43 == 1:2 (fps value w/o vsync is between 43 and 85) 29 Â == 1:3 (fps value w/o vsync is between 29 and 43) make sure You don't force VSYNC in drivers or 3rd party tool, set it in way that application controls it other than this i got no idea where could be problem, with my HD3870 i get with VSYNC set in drivers as default on (w/o TB) smooth framerate changes which works like TB (guess arma own style of buffering) anyway last idea tried force Tripple Buffering (tho it should not work or cause some weird issues) via some 3rd party tool ? KeyCat 131 Posted April 28, 2008 what's Your resolution refresh rate ? My resolution is 1280x960 @ 85 Hz refresh. I've actually been reading up a bit on just that (D3DOverrider and DXTweaker) and will test them out as soon as I get a chance and see what happens... /KC
Dwarden 1125 Posted April 28, 2008 ok that fits my conclusion still weird why it seems Your vsync is 'locked' this ways ... either it's the drivers or no idea ... laterly it seems that tons of different problems plague both NVIDIA and AMD.ATI camps
KeyCat 131 Posted April 30, 2008 Just sharing my findings in case someone else struggling with the same issue... By forcing Tripple Buffering on using D3D Overrider 1.50 (included in RivaTuner 2.x) I now have the best of two worlds I guess. Thanks to Alexey Nicolaychuk & Co for making and sharing RivaTuner for free! I'm now able to run with Vsync ON without any FPS penalties at all and it fixes my TIR 2 going nuts when looking strait up/down Been testing both SP and MP now for a while and it works flawless for me in ArmA 1.12 Beta, haven't seen any ill effects at all. /KC
